This stuff started with the UNLV QB walking away from his team during season this year. Shocked why individuals are surprised about this, it's the new age of college sports. The name on back of Uniform is more important than name on the front. No reason to apologize. There are tons of these situations throughout the collegiate landscape, all incentivized by this toxic environment that is college sports.
IIRC he was trying to preserve his senior year and claimed UNLV didn’t pay him the 100k promised by a coach. UNLV said he was never offered the money. This stuff started with the UNLV QB walking away from his team during season this year. Individuals better cherish the Ziegler's and Mashack's of the world they will become far and few in the landscape of college athletics..
I agree. The “selfish player” narrative doesn’t seem to fit here. Nothing makes sense. Transferring at this point in the season makes no sense. His playing time was going to go up on a team with national exposure. Likely a starter next year. If he wanted a redshirt why not at least talk to a coach. He had two more years. This is shocking and maddening at the same time. Was very high on him for his athletic ability and seemed like a smart kid with good family influence. This flies in the face of what I know of him and the influence of CRB and staff.
Feels like something else behind the scenes, I don’t even think this is about being recruited or offered something else at another school. Even the worst of the worst D1 scum coaches wouldn’t advocate for this kind of departure.

If we recruit another big man out of the portal that ends up starting, I fully expect to lose either Estrella or Phillips.
I know you love UT and can't fathom this, but these kids have a very small shot at making the league and have to do what they can to maximize their chances of getting there. If Carr thinks he is an NBA talent he isnt going to get there with 8 minutes per game in year 2. Time will tell.
I think you have too high of an opinion of some D1 coaches. I can name 5 off the cuff that would probably do this and have done this before.
I don't expect any worthwhile changes. The NCAA hands are tied and they are administrators not leaders. Lost control along time ago and it is coming back to haunt them. They choose what was best for the pot of gold and fumbled it into what we have today. The transfer portal and semi-pro sports have made strange bed fellows.
It's over in a few years for college sports if something doesn't change.
I respectfully disagree that the worst of the worst D1 coaches wouldn’t approve of this behavior. This smells like tampering or under the table shenanigans. Carr may have been told not to say anything. Still, this is very bizarre. So much for the golden rule! This is shocking and maddening at the same time. Barnes told reporters that he has no idea why Carr left the program while noting that the coaching staff didn't have any discussions with the sophomore guard before he left.
"He just walked out," said Barnes.
"We were obviously counting on him being part of the team. Surprised his teammates. They were very disappointed. So from here on, there is nothing to really talk about. He made his decision. No reason. It’s baffling to be quite honest with you.”
"To be honest with you I am not surprised," continued Barnes when further asked about Carr's decision. "It didn’t surprise me. I actually made that comment to the coaches. That’s all I can tell you...We are around these guys all the time. We know when guys are locked in and when they’re not. We know guys. We know these guys like the back of our hand. They talk. We talk. So if you ask me, I was not the least bit surprised.” [\QUOTE]
