Can Milton win the Heisman?

NO Tennesee player will ever win the Heisman. It is forbidden. The award says it is to go to the very best player in CFB EXCEPT players of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Says so right there in the rules.

He can win the Heisman. Has all the tools, the ESPN analysts even commented in the games he came in for clean up how they wanted him to unleash a few throws.

It really depends though on his touch on the deep throws and short 5-7 yard throws. I think it really is a mental game with him during game time.

Ass hurt. Way to people in this fan base. Especially when you consider we haven't done shat, until this year, for 20 years. Two decades of crap.

I don't think his overthrow problems are over unfortunately. I'll say not a chance on the Heisman. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Always will be a bias towards the Ohio State, Bama, and USC schools. Basically Milton has to win the conference then hope that no player from one of those media darlings have had a decent year. Can he win it? Not really.

Joe obviously has all the physical tools to make every throw on the field. We saw his improved development in the Orange Bowl. He is in the greatest offense in college football.

What kind of numbers and how far does this team have to go to get Milton #1 on those ballots?

I say we need to make the SEC championship game, be in the top 3, and he needs to hit 4,000 with 35+tds before the Championship game. My understanding is that the ballots are cast before conference championships, so he needs to hit those numbers in 12 games. That would average out to 334 ypg and 3 tds.

You might say those are high standards compared to some past winners, but we know the Heisman voters never want a UT guy to make it, so Milton needs to be that much better than the competition. It would help for Caleb Williams to lose a game or two mid season to slow his momentum. The good news is uga won’t have a walkon starting next year so they won’t get the feel-good-story vote for a mediocre qb. Heup just needs to keep Milton in the games long enough to hit those numbers when we’re rolling other teams.

What do y’all think? What’s Milton’s path to the Heisman?
We would have to beat either Georgia or Alabama and finish with atleast 10 wins in the regular season and atleast have the number that hooker had.. my personal opinion he would have to have better numbers.. that’s a lot to ask of Milton tho so I’m still in the wait and see approach before I get on the heisman hype train!! Does he have the tools to be able to be in the heisman race, absolutely!! It’s up to Milton mentally if he is able to put those numbers and wins together tho.

I’d prefer he end up a top 5 NFL draft pick, which would do more to boost our recruiting and is more likely to boot.

This x 1000. The Heisman is a bullschiit politically motivated award, but developing into a high #1 pick is what stud recruits will see and what will attract them to the program, and the same goes for every position on the field.

Winning and being prepared for the next level - those are the things that bring in top talent and build a program to the elite level. The awards will come as a result of the program getting the respect of the hacks that vote for them.

No Bama player won it until Mark Ingram in 2009.
Now they have 4 winners.
The truth is East Coast, Midwest, and West Coast media voters control the award.
Even Peyton Couldn't overcome the bias.
I have a feeling the media will latch onto Joe in a way Hendon never did.
I figure the hype that Will Levis' physical attributes generated will make Joe a media darling and huge story for the 23 season. If Joe delivers, (he hasn't thrown many INTs yet) he could ride that wave and be a contender.

I think he needs to really improve his decision making. Learn when to run vs throwing it away and not taking a sack. Hooker was exceptional at this.

All need to do is throw 70 TDs, rushed for 1,000 yards, and 0 INTs...how hard is that? 🙄😉

Usually QBs with Joe’s running ability have the opposite problem, but I agree, he needs to be a little more willing to scramble.

And the team would have to go undefeated and win NC and there is a chance he may get invited to the ceremony. Winning, probably not. ESPN would have some other player they were promoting that would win. Seen his picture before.

He does need work on that, but I wouldn't say Hendon was exceptional at all. Hooker took several sacks here. Like that was probably his biggest weakness. Holding onto the ball too long.

I wonder if that has something to do with the coaching they get from Heup.

I'll take it from both of them. Better than forcing a pass and throwing a pick. Joe isn't the scrambler Hendon was, but he isn't awful at it. He'll Crack a few next year.

Agree 100%.
Hendon was never comfortable throwing the ball away.

You’re right. I meant more so on knowing when to take off. There was a few times in the Clemson game where Milton had an easy first down if he just scrambled. Instead he just stood there.

All I’m going to say is that we have no excuse to not be as good as this past years team. It was a special year, but I believe we can duplicate it. I think Milton will be good at QB, we return our RBs, we replace Hyatt with somebody who can potentially be better, the O-line will be just as good or better, the TEs may be just as good or better, the defense as a whole will be better, special teams will be just as good or better. This is the first off-season I can remember in a long time where I haven’t had a lot of questions about the team going into the season. Last years team was special on offense but this years team may be the better all around team in all phases IMO.
