Can the Republican Party recover?

Although conservative, I haven’t voted Republican in a presidential election in over 12 years. I’ve been dissatisfied with the direction of the party and based on this last election, I could see things going down pretty fast. Looking back, the idea that a guy like Trump could even be seriously considered, much less win, was beyond reason for me.

While I believed Trump would shake up the party, I didn’t know if it would for better or worse. Four years later and the swamp isn’t drained. Trump galvanized a particular base, and quite frankly, those people scare me as much as the most radical liberal. After his tenure, I see a country more divided, more misinformed, and more hostile towards one another. Trump was polarizing and brought out the worst on both sides.

I would love to see the Republican Party redefine itself and evaluate its platform.

What are the main areas and issues that you see needing a rethink for the GOP to avoid its demise?

Trump showed how bad the swamp is. When you your own cia and fbi going against you, it's bad. These guys are America's enemies, not all of them but a few was enough. We see the new communist party for what it is, they no longer hide that fact.

America is definitely in the down slope of what we used to be. we're just a shell of what we were. It will never be fixed.

I mean Tommy Tubbs got elected to the senate and he doesn’t even know basic information on how the government works. He fits right in with the electorate that voted for him.

Vandyinmichigan I'd rather have that than some bearoucrat. He hasn't been tainted yet.

Give me an R who actually is fiscally conservative and not batsh!t crazy on social issues, and I actually would vote R. Until then, I'm most likely continuing voting libertarian.
Your first sentence is the best description of what I’d like to see. The Republican Party bears no resemblance to the one I voted with for years. I refuse to vote for the batsh!t crazy wing that has taken control. Until there is room for moderates again in the party, they won’t see my vote. Hoping a third party of moderate Republicans and Democrats forms at some point so people have a place to move away from the radicals on both sides.

Exactly. There’s still a glimmer of hope with the Rs. I see no hope the Ds will ever recover. 3rd party for me.
Sometimes 4th
If Trump is the “leader” of the Republicans going forward, there is no glimmer of hope there either.

The Reagan R administration and era was overrun with the Bible thumping element. Their moral high ground probably resulted in the other side gaining traction.

The Bush administrations were overrun by those with their globalists agenda.

Trump pushed back against the activist media that controls the message for the benefit of the Ds. He might have said stupid **** along the way but he also exposed the swampiness without the help of an unbiased media.

At least when the Rs are accused of not being fiscally conservative, IMO, the deficit spending and debt expansion is because the economy needs to be stimulated and the neglected defense spending needs to be repaired instead of handing out entitlements (student debt cancellation anybody?).

Trump is old if he loses this Hail Mary hill sit on the sidelines and lob in tweets.
Someone like Tim Scott is your new GOP.

Good! There are already enough spineless quitters in the GOP.
Well the lunatic fringe turned off enough moderate Republicans and then ignited the radical left so much that it cost the Republicans the Presidency and there’s a fair chance the Georgia runoffs will flip the Senate. Great strategerie. Keep it up.
