Can we pump the brakes on the meltdown over QB play please?

LOL, and I guess you can do better? How many practices have you seen Freak? Are you there counting balls thrown? Are you there juding the timing of routes, the speed of the turns to the ball? NO....... let me say it again..... NO... you get your info like I do except I get it from former vols that KNOW me.....

Because I disagree with you I expect I'm doomed to be banned, but before you form an opinion WATCH what you see and THEN Talk about it..... FOOLISH is the word that comes to mind

I'm not allowed to critique quarterbacks unless I can do better? That's not really how it works, otherwise this board would be empty. We come here to discuss the highlights and comments that we have access to.

I'm making my judgment off of the videos I've watched and the multitude of comments coaches, former players and media have made on quarterback play. You're free to disagree --- message boards were built for discussion.

I'm pulling for Worley. He's a senior and he played well at times last year before he got hurt. Tennessee beat a top 10 team with Worley and I think we need his leadership on the field. That said, I still stand by all the reports that he's been inconsistent and not particularly sharp. Which means: through six practices he's not played as well as he's capable. Nothing more.

Just to be clear, are you saying you know the quarterbacks ARE playing well, despite the highlights and reports we've seen to the contrary? I guess I'm not sure exactly what your point is.

This is not practice #6 for Worley and Dobbs. This is Worleys SR year, he hasn't shown us anything yet so I doubt he does. Dobbs was our starter half of last year and has been healthy and still isn't showing us much. Peterman is the only one that should be claiming rust as an issue due to missing all of last year. I'm sure hoping whichever QB starts will do an adequate job, regardless of who it is.

You never played sports did you?

I'll wait to see what happens on the field before I comment on actual gameplay. World of difference between practice and real performance. I've seen players practice great and play horrible. I've also seen the exact opposite. Once the season starts, it's fair game. Results need to be seen when it counts.

Without question. I don't know why some people insist that discussing the inconsistencies (Butch's word) of the quarterbacks after a week somehow means we are dooming them for the season. It's still early. There's going to be good and bad with every practice.

We're 6 practices in.

They just put on pads like 3 days ago.

QB is the position where the offseason rust is the most obvious.

Our QB's started slow in the spring and were very sharp by the end.

Again..... 6 practices.....

Can we give them some time to get into a rhythm? I'm already hearing "4 win season" and "If Ferguson had stayed" talk.

Let's step away from the ledge.

Worley is a 4th year senior, not some kid that showed up 3 months ago.

If he is struggling in practice, the concern for the season is valid.

Awesome job of welcoming another skeptic to the fold freak. And just what is the limit on our ignore list?

I've often wondered that. Why don't we find out? Please place me on your ignore list. I will do the same. I figure neither of us is really going to miss anything by doing so...I don't post much, and I have yet to see anything you have posted that was interesting.

It isn't "rust"... just stretching them. Good O coaches do it all the time. Cut did. The only way you get a QB especially to take the next step is to challenge him and let him fail... over and over. If you only have him practice the things he does well then how exactly is he going to improve?

I think Butch is playing the media and opposing coaches. I think our QB's are fine. Jmo.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was not as bad as it seems. The media only sees a very limited part of practice so we just have to take the word of the players and coaches. I personally do not think Butch wants to blow any of these guys heads up because the media will take anything and run with it. He wants to keep these guys focused because you can take one step forward or backwards each day. In order to get better we have to stay focused in every aspect. We need to make strides at this point for sure, but Butch will put the best guy on the field. We know Worley beat Uscjr and played Georgia close so we know he's capable of playing decent football to keep us in those games. Just staying optimistic. Almost here fellas can't wait! GBO!!!

Volnation, you are great fans, keep it going, caring enough to be concerned, get excited, question the coach, great fans do stuff like this and then yell Go Big Orange...My Big Orange.

To all you young folks out there........relax.

1: Worley is the starter. He is getting a majority of the reps. Of course they are going to keep shouting "competition" but the fact remains, the staff is preparing Worley to be the starter.

2: Worley is a slightly better than average, SEC QB as it stands.

3: 1st team WR are catching from all of the QBs. Timing is crucial and when Worley starts getting more reps with his 1s, his accuracy will go up. This is the first fall practice with Malone and VP.

Thats probably the most concerning part is both guys (Dobbs and Worley) have seen live fire and gotten enough reps in the last 12 to 16 months to be as inconsistent as the head coach makes it sound like they are.

Is Jones overplaying what is going on to an extent? Probably. Is he comfortable with where things are given the time left in camp. Doesnt appear that way in the slightest. This team needs confidence heading into the opener and if Jones had it in the QB play (prolly the biggest and most important spot) you would be hearing about it.

Is the season doomed? Not yet
Should there be concern that the QBs appear inconsistent? Sure.

What's up Beecher. Hope you are doing well man.

I think you are partially right. Worley is struggling a bit but the coaches are preparing him as game 1 starter.

I'd be willing to bet, with 2 weeks before the opener, Worley will be named starter and get 60% of the reps.

I am. Hope things are good on your end.

All things point to Worley. I get the feeling the staff would like to see him take total control of the position and Im just not sure he has done that. I think they put Worley in a position where he has to lose the job to Dobbs or Peterman and it boils down to him keeping it.

I think we are mediocre at QB with either of them really. 15' and 16' are where things get interesting at that spot.

Agreed about Worley having to "lose" the job.

I'm not sure about rust or just the 6 practice... The QBs and WRs should of been working together all summer. Yes, its a little different with pads on and more pressure in front of the coaches but the timing should be there.

I know it's six practices, but I would have expected a senior QB to have the job wrapped up six months ago. :hi:

If you only knew.

Well I don't know.

What I do know is I played basketball all 4 years in High School, and if I went a week without shooting a ball, even a few days, I would be rusty. These guys have gone 4 months. Granted they may have thrown the ball around some in those 4 months, but they aren't just throwing a ball around anymore. They are throwing bullets, fades, leading receivers on routes, hitting them in stride, etc.

They are rusty. Give them time.
