Candace Parker left off team USA for Rio olympics

Charles plays the 5, something that Parker has refused to do for USAB. In fact she has never liked playing in the mosh pit down low. I remember that being an issue in 2012. With Fowles and Griner injured, Geno asked her to play the 5 and she refused. Then, when he started Catchings at the 4 a lot of LV fans were irate.

The whole "Parker refusing to play the 5" bit has already been discussed here, and that's not true.

Charles also plays the 4. Kelsey Bone plays the 5 for the Liberty, although Tina can play there as does Candace. They've matched against each other in the pros several times with both of them playing low post, and Candace dominated those matchups, so not only is she a better high post player, but she's a better low post player as well.

There is nothing Tina does on the court that Candace doesn't do better.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure one of our MANY UCONN posters will if I am, but didn't Geno say something to the effect that Tennessee is a school that deals with "that kind of drama" in reference to De'Shields when she was considering transferring here. I'm sure this wasn't the direct quote but you could catch the shade Geno was throwing at us.

I feel he has the same type of disdain for Parker, whose fire can at time resemble De'Shields in her freshman days. This year she seemed a lot more subdued compared to her freshman year where she was, at times, considered cocky. Geno has never liked these type of players and regardless of how UCONN fans try to spin it...at the end of the day...if Geno wanted Parker on the team.....we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I'm loving this drama because it just shows the whole basketball world how petty and classless Geno is and has been.

First and foremost, leaving Candace Parker off the team is a huge mistake. She was one of the best, if not the best, U.S. Team member in 2012...the most rebounds, the most blocks and the third best scorer!! How do you choose someone with better credentials?
To blame Geno, however, is ludicrous. He does not pick the team and can't override the committee's choices. We'll never know whether he personally favored Candace over Della Donne or Griner....or even ( take a breath) Stewart.
Those posters who now would like our team to lose are truly a sad bunch. AS totally regrettable and unfounded as the decision is...and there's no doubt that it is...we're still the United States of America and not the United State of Tennessee and and too many have sacrificed for us to have that distinction. America should come first in everything regardless of other considerations..especially on a world stage!!

only a fool would believe that the HEAD COACH is NOT accountable for placing and selecting players on his team.

You are right. No one on this board would believe it. I've read this board long enough to know that many posters here are ready to believe anything bad about anyone associated with UConn without question. And I got my information on rebkel from a west coast poster.

Maybe if Parker made her talent available to USAB in 2014 & 2016 at the Worlds, and not just show up for the Olympics, she would have made this team.

I somehow think that more of the committee's reasoning in their selections will be known tomorrow. And I'm sure that no matter what they say, many on this board will not be satisfied. They made up their minds about Geno long ago. I remember 4 years ago that Geno was castigated and vilified for not starting Parker and limiting her play. I also remember that when she went back to LA after the games she declared herself injured and sat out the rest of the season. What I don't remember is even one LV fan posting that maybe they were wrong and that maybe her limited play had something to do with her injury. No, of course not. It might mean admitting that their image of Geno as a spiteful and vindictive ass was wrong and that would spoil all the fun they have spewing venom on him.
4 years ago is when she came in and helped them win the gold medal? You trying to imply she was hurt? If not for her we would have lost that game. He stats didn't seem to indicate an injury. Also the game was over, we had won there was no reason for Geno to"blow smoke" as you said. When they win he usually gives credit to his players i.e DT and Stewie. If she were injured or in playoff as with other players on the team then she couldn't play in the world games.["I remember 4 years ago that Geno was castigated and vilified for not starting Parker and limiting her play. I also remember that when she went back to LA after the games she declared herself injured and sat out the rest of the season."] I looked back at her 2012 stats and she played 33 games.
In 2012, Parker played the full season and helped her team to a 24-10 record, making the playoffs as the second seed in the west. In the first round, they beat the San Antonio Stars two games to none. In the Western Conference Finals, against the Minnesota Lynx, the Sparks lost two games to none, while Parker scored 33 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and had 4 blocks in a must-win game two, which they lost, 80-79, therefore ending their season. Parker was very emotional following the loss, hugging her mother Sara with tears.

Try again:ermm:

*cough* BULL $HIT! *clear throat*

It is only ludicrous to think the head coach of the Olympic team doesn't have input into the selection of team members (or at a minimum - the right to veto someone they don't desire). Coach K certainly does have input into the men's team and he has discussed this fact in the past. (The 2008 team selection was a collaborative effort between Coach K and Jerry Colangelo). Why would the women's team be any different?

You are welcome to cheer for whoever you like but I will be cheering for teams that are representing the United States of America in Rio... not the University of Connecticut. :hi:

Geno is a first class ASS, for anyone to believe he isn't behind this in some way doesn't know how very self centered he is and how Anti Tennessee also.
Time for letters and phone calls to the USA training center in Colorado . The person n number is posted in most articles about this

Anybody know the address/ phone#? Let's start petition cause I don't care wat anyone says to defend "high class ***** Geno." NO more "College Coach coaching international game period. He knows how to use his ***** ways to recruit players.

too bad that wasn't retroactive to include obummer, he's never have been eligible.

have to say that those lemmings over on "the-boneyard.com" have been as perplexed as most here with the Parker omission from the O team. Most think she got hosed. They just won't quite admit that geno did the hosing.

Most of us on this board have been cordial to any UConn fan that posts here, but no one should be cordial to any UConn fan that comes here and tells us it was on the committee....They don't even believe that BS they are shoveling.

Depriving Candace from representing her country, because of a power play by the little $hit, just stinks.....

Anyone saying that Geno doesn't have any input on who makes the team is telling a big lie. I am even going to say he is the reason she is not on the team. There is no other reason she wouldn't be there.

Voepel hinted that the Committee might have chosen under the supposed concept that "it's not the 12 best.... it's the 12 that best get along together" Shoot that theory down since Angel made the team. Makes no sense.

Anybody send an email to USA Basketball that got a reply? I didn't

It is different. USAB has stated as FACT that the team is selected by the committee. Sure, the coach has input. I'm sure he explains his wishes to the committee but it's clear that in the end THEY vote for the team. Why else do they exist? The men don't use a committee so it's the coach and Jerry. If Geno had the final say they wouldn't need a committee vote, but they do have a committee. You are just speculating. In your mind it HAS to be Geno. Now if you or anyone can come up with one fact to support your opinion I'd consider it but every article and source I have seen says that the team is picked by the committee so unless Geno has video of them in chicken costumes performing lewd acts I have to assume that it was their decision to leave Parker off the team. Of course none of them have ties to UConn so you can't base it on hate or vindictiveness and would have to consider the horrible possibility that there's something about Parker beyond her massive talent that made them do what they did.

Watch the interview of Geno on SNY, he admits he has more input than you are willing to acknowledge. The look on his face during that interview says it all
