Tad Boyle is a solid basketball coach. He is approaching 60 years of age so not sure he'd be long for the job, but really no one is anymore. If the hammer drops on Kansas, I could see him being interested in going back to his alma mater. I also think Maryland's Mark Turgeon might be a replacement at KU as well if things go down.

I have an unfounded belief that one thing which sets a coach up for success is some kind of connection to the culture of the university. So I always wonder how some of these coaches would do here plucked out of the wilds of Utah and wherever else they came from. Musselman doing pretty good at Arkansas tho
Very interesting idea!

This firing Barnes stuff is ridiculous. Yes, Barnes unperformed as a head coach this year and did not earn his money. There are some adjustments that he needs to make to account for the direction where the game is going. There are many HOF coaches (Izzo, Cal, K, Roy) that underperformed as well.

Barnes wont be fired by UT but it's possible that he could retire.

Well apparently Kim English is all but hired by George Mason right now. May get the experience he needs to come back home when Barnes hangs it up.
This is the next step for English. Time for him to prove himself. At some point he may become a good candidate for a high major job but this is his next step.

Possible but unlikely. Barnes isn't a young man by any means, but 66 isn't all that old by coaching standards. Bob McKillop is 70. Roy Williams is 70. Leonard Hamilton is 72. Coach K is 74. Barnes probably has a few more years left in him.

Here are some coaches that I think White could potentially get whenever Barnes decides to hang it up:

Casey Alexander - Belmont
Chris Holtmann - Ohio St
Kermit Davis - Ole Miss
Tad Boyle - Colorado
Kevin Keatts - NC St
Porter Moser - Loyola Chicago
Buzz Williams - Texas A&M

Would you be happy with any of these coaches?
Not Williams. Holtmann? On the fence. The rest I would take in a heartbeat.

Which means we will have multiple Dance appearances but no conference titles and early Dance exits. Guess it could be worse. After all, we’re the school that suffered under Wade the Fade and Buzz Ball.

What no Bruce on this list? If you all would just calm your ish, let Barnes make the NCAA a regular thing, then we might be able to land better coaches...

If you’re going to name a coach it should be one that’s an improvement from a results department if they’re at a HM...if it’s a MM guy then I get it, but those are no guarantee so also risk involved there. Keats, Williams and Davis would all be downgrades from a results standpoint, they’re at HM and not getting it done. Holtmann at OSU looks a lot like Barnes, 3 NCAAT trips but has never won more than 1 game, no S16?

Underwood is a hot name but he’s 1/4 at Illinois on NCAAT appearances, granted his 1 is looking pretty nice right now.

I just think looking around the country and trying to find a sitting HC who makes the NCAAT routinely at a P5 is pretty difficult.

Edit: I just looked it up, pretty amazing how few teams consecutively make NCAAT appearances, it looks like Tennessee would be tied for 13th longest active streak nationally at 3 in a row.
