For the love of all that is holy VolNation....this staff can't help the bare cupboard of speed and upper S.E.C. elite defensive talent they have to work with. Brick by brick recruit sell the vision recruit recruit recruit the speed back to Tennessee! That is all Butch and company can do for now! I am glad the 30 commitments of elite level athletes get it and know it!

Malzahn inherited top level talent that Chizik couldn't coach up after he left Auburn. It was obvious how out classed of speed and level of athletes we have through these last 3 games especially. Butch got #117 to play above there abilities against Georgia and South Carolina teams and beat them up and should of had 2 W's for both of them. He flat out showed he could out coach Richt and Spurrier with lesser talent. I'm amazed how quickly everyone has forgotten that! But this gauntlet of top 10 teams has mentally broken these players and fan base quite honestly!!!!

This is year 4 of Dooley's recruits and this would be the year a lot of you guys said we would know what we had with him with his players in place. Well now we all know. He choked on so many top level DL's and LB's....some of which were to Auburn btw. Mid level ACC or Big Ten level athletes.....especially on DEFENSE!!! That is what Dooley left us with.

So Butch and Co. keep up the hard work on the recruiting trails....because that is all you can do to right this ship....speed, speed, size, and more speed....S.E.C. SPEED!!! Butch's coaching resume and N.F.L. draft pick talent tells me with his own guys he builds championship contenders!!!!

You can coach technique and good habbits. Our defense is slow, but they are also horrendous at the fundamentals of defense. Line up right, take the right first step at the snap, get off blocks, take good angles, wrap up. We don't do hardly any of those things right. Add in the fact that every player looks like they are running in quick sand, and you have the makings of a blowout every time you face a competent team. Jancek needs to get this figured out.

OK just for clarification, do we have enough talent to Complete with Vandy? How bout KY? I mean they've been recruiting like there's no tomorrow.

Great Post here ! Identifies issues and places blame where it belongs, without calling for "heads to roll"..... Poster actually says "Jancek needs to get this figured out"....We will learn as a "fan base" how to win and lose.

I agree with you absolutely...I think that is also the difference since the Ga & SC games too. They were inspired then and being crushed by Bama and losing Justin Worley the offensive line has stepped backward and the defense looks like Sunseri is coaching them again.

Vandy/Kentucky level talent

Mental fortitude to play above there level and smash them in the face like they fought Georgia and the Cocks is the question...:dunno:

The OP is right. You can't coach speed. Or tackling. Or coverage assignments. Or gap responsibility. These things are inherent. We don't have any of them to the degree that a team like Arkansas State or Toledo does or else we might have kept things closer with Auburn or Missouri, like they did.

Good post....we all knew this was a possibility.

I don't care whether or not some fans are broken and totally agree with you regarding the players.

Our fans are so fickle and we think we are the best fan base in college football, but with the crap you see posted on this board we are not close.

I know being a fan does not mean you cannot be critical, but some fans are over the top. Fire this and that guy, that the coach is not the guy. You all have seen the threads, somebody stated the were embarrassed by the team's performance well look around this board their is plenty to be embarrassed about.

The last 4 teams we play have a combined record of 34-4.

Dude, Malzan recruited and coached most all of the players on that team. He inherited the players that were recruited to run the spread that he ran when they won in 2010. Chizik was just too stupid to leave the offense alone when Malzan left for Arky State. Had they ran spread last year they would have won some games.

That fact is routinely ignored by most around here.

Because that fact does not fit neatly with the "Butch gets it" dream. I support CBJ but hate his staff - I think his OC and especially DC are dragging him down (his great recruiting efforts will all be for nothing if he does not upgrade his staff).

Chizik choosing poorly for an offensive coordinator like Fulmer did and getting fired has nothing to do with the level athletes he recruited to Auburn...high level S.E.C. talent was there all along. Malzahn was left with the perfect opportunity to walk in and win...couldn't have been any luckier. For Butch and Co. not so.

As for the rest of the team's we have lost to this season...

After looking at those lists there is no doubt why we can't hang with the big boys...the only one that leaves ME scratching my head at how we got owned is Mizzou...if you ask me Gary Pinkel deserves coach of the year with what he has done with the talent he has!

Butch will do what he has to do for the greater good when the time comes after he has his players here and if things aren't going as planned. Right now he and this staff are trying to turn chicken :crap2: into chicken salad.

All those stats would make for an interesting conversation if you can believe that CBJ is as good as Malzahn or Pinkel (in terms of could he had walked into the Auburn job with his bearcat staff and done even remotely as well as Malzahn with that same talent at Auburn). It is impossible for me to believe that right now after what Malzahn and Pinkel did to him (especially to Jancek), so all the rest of those rankings and numbers are meaningless.

Utah beat Stanford...then they beat Oregon. Central Florida nearly beat South Carolina that we beat that beat Mizzou....any given Saturday fella.

I don't know about you...but anyone who has played a sport or competed in anything knows that even when you coach someone up...being out classed in athleticism will make you sloppy and start making mistakes instead of using technique that you practice everyday...it tears your mental game down and then you have mistakes.

3 years of Dooley'd down loser give up football mentality is sadly going to take more than this season to wash the stench of it off these kids. This is why "The Legacy Class" is so important to the rise of Tennessee football. They all believe in Butch and truly understand what Tennessee Football is all about....elite level talent with heart and passion...no doubt in my mind they will play like the these left over Dooley recruits when adversity hits.

Regardless of who we play, on each offensive play that has a sizable gain, we have our defensive players missing on tackles. You can see it on special teams and on run plays. Time & Time again!!!!!

I do believe he is as good as those two coaches. On the flip side do you think Pinkel or Malzahn could walk into Tennessee with their staffs and be undefeated or with one loss after this gauntlet of top 10 teams? If you say yes then I know you are either really just upset after losing...delusional....or an idiot :dunno:

Of course they would not have only one loss but we would be doing much better in terms of being competitive and not getting blown out like this every week. Both of those coaches seem much more practical/pragmatic then CBJ who seems religiously attached to his system "that can't fail" (those two are types of coaches that seem to do the most with what they are given - so I for example believe they would not have messed with the offense that much early on since there was nothing there that was broken and needed fixing - it's more likely they would have kept Chaney and Pittman to make sure the o-line which is the strength of the team does not fall apart - exactly opposite from what happened under CBJ).
