Caplan: Never Offered Gruden Close to What He Wanted

Cool. Thanks. That's what I thought. Ive seen her say stuff like that before. I have no doubt that many kids believe that and Dooley doesn't seem to be the type to play that game. I understand u have to SOME and sure he did SOME, but there is a limit. I'm sure many players, parents, HS coaches, and now handlers take it to a level that is just to much. It came back to bit Dooley in the butt cause he wasn't given enough time to push that out of the system. I'm sure kiffs first class was full of that bs. I'll try to look into it when I can. Thx again. :hi:

Here is a link to the exchange Oskie if you want to check it out:

This gets old no one wanted the job.

If you pay they will come. UT has no interest in bringing a big time coach in here. As long as they can average 80k and share in conference revenue they're good. As long as people continue to support the program regardless of results they'll continue to experiment with up and coming coaches.

Dooley was in over his head.

UT should have made a big splash hire. They didnt and went with plan B/C, maybe it will work

IMHO he wasn't in over his head for the job he was brought in for....to rebuild the program. His 1st job wasn't to be just a "coach" but mainly a "fixer". Problem is that majority of fans don't understand whats actually going on in the AD for whatever reason...don't want to or its over their heads.

Just IMHO that's all...

Gracias amigo :hi:

Dooley was in over his head two jobs ago. Look at his record.

Well we disagree man. He went to LA Tech to change it up as HC and AD.

Seriously the guy was responsible for completing the top athletic facility in the country, NCAA issues, going through the hiring/firing of his AD, probably dealing with the crap that has come up with the merging of the 2 ADs cause I'm sure he had long meetings on how best to do it with football being the top program, etc etc etc....all in less than 3 yrs and facing probably one of the toughest 3 yr schedule stretch in who knows how long.

Dooley had to deal with all the above, plus all the other regular everyday football HC requirements. Cbj will have to just deal with football not other crap in the AD. And he is going to make 1.1 mil or so more a yr.

Its really hard for me to insult a guy by saying he was in over his head when he dealt with everything he had to while here. I'd bet the house that you and 99.999999% of the people on here are NOWHERE nearly qualified to say that he was "in over his head".

If you can't understand my pt that he wasn't hired to "coach" only but to repair all aspects of the program then please don't respond cause frankly it won't be worth my time. Trust me I've seen all the regular comebacks so unless you got something more than "he didnt win"then please don't waste my time. Ive said it a bunch that IMHO its misguided to measure his time here by only his w/l record.

Just all IMHO that's all...

That's the last two Athletic Director's Mission Statement, verbatim.
