Career change/advice

This stuff is kinda fun but I confess I'm at a loss on some of the finer points on how to properly play....maybe someone can give me a hand.....

I think I get the part where someone lists a vocation or makes a statement of 'supposed fact', IE 'I make 120K large' in mock seriousness, AKA satire, with a straight face.....now are we supposed to discus as if its true, kind of like a 'parlor game' or are we supposed from obscure and nuanced clues guess what they really do....you know like the 'attorney guy', I think he probably works for a convenient store, like a 7-11....maybe, just maybe the front end but doubtful....and the ' Any advice for a nursing student? Once I graduate I plan on becoming a nurse practitioner and then going into anesthesia' one is killer....I suggest you become a cowboy or a race car driver....

Kinda off track but who in here has a 'real job'...I don't...

I realize I could be way off base but I do so want to fit in...any recommendations would be appreciated....

What did you do before you retired?

Sort of like Mail Goggles--makes you do a math problem before you send an email after midnight.

I don't understand the fascination/concern regarding the time I'm on here and posting threads...maybe its because when many of you are up at that hour you're not being productive or doing reasonable things...

Anyway I'll answer you fully realizing it will be used for your very poor attempts at being cute, clever and at humor...albeit the inbred sophomoric humor...

Typically I gt 4 hours of sleep a night....10 pm to 2 am...when I was working I took a 20 minute nap at lunch and another around 4 when possible...also I worked an average of around 65 hours a week. Now days I'm much more liberal with my naps...again I realize this will be mocked but as far as what I did when I worked, I worked for one of the largest companies in the world...multi-national, multi-functional, but would probably be thought of as a manufacturing company...

In 1974 I graduated from UTK with a degree in mechanical Engineering and a few years later an MBA from Columbia...lived in 7 locations here in the us and a short stint in Europe...I was early outed a couple of years ago at a relatively early age but with a nice bridge to retirement and a very solid non compete with my previous employer....moved to a place on Norris Lake just north of Knoxville...getting to do lots of fun and interesting things like restoring an old sports car I drug around for over 30 years; working in our church; the Sierra Club; and most rewarding a dog rescue and fostering in addition to a more active role in Big Brothers and Big Sisters which I've participated in for almost 40 years...that's almost a full plate, yet I was missing my social science project at the Waffle House....

So, hold on a minute. Folks come on here and post questions or have discussions about things that may be important to them. Some give them advice, others make a joke to keep things lively. You come on in the middle of the night and question whether they are being truthful and whether we should give good advice or just act like we are playing a game. Then to defend yourself, you lay out an existence that looks pretty good by all respects, and we're just supposed to accept it? I'm okay with that, however, you have to give the same acceptance if you expect any back.

Now, if all you want to do is judge and laugh at people, then go ahead and have at it. Just don't expect us to give you any respect in return.

My sister works for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Knoxville.

My daughter worked there up until last year when she moved to Japan to teach English. Restarted and ran the aquatics program at the Haslem Family Club over on Caswell Ave.

I think you should have put a comma between "inbred" and "sophomoric".

If she worked in Knoxville she probably knows my sister. She over all the matches.

I put some articles in the Sports forum a while back on the UT Swim team going to the center. Also, the club had a boy who won a trip to the summer olympics from Michael Phelps and my daughter was in several news stories about it.

That's awesome. Really something to be proud of. I am proud of my sister and the hard work she does for all those kids.

General Electric? and what kind of car are you restoring

Wow this thread took a turn. Merry Christmas everyone. Back to work at 7/11 I go

Thanks for your response and everyone else's. I've been an attorney for nine years. I have run my own practice since 2010 and just relocated to Nashville from San Diego and am building it up here.

Just kind of burned out practicing law at the moment. I'll probably wind up sticking with it, but I may consider going to work for a firm doing different types of law, or pursuing other professions. Wish me luck.

Ministry.. Do it.

SDV, have you considered practicing law in an area that would benefit those in need (many different ways to go from there)? I am a firm believer that one of the greatest blessings in life is to be able to work in a field that you enjoy, provide for your family, AND help those less fortunate or unable to take care of themselves.
