Career change/advice

Yeah, I usually have VN window on at work. When you are your own boss, you don't have anyone telling you to stay off the computer. Plus, there is actually quite a bit of down time when I am not in court or trial.

I love Attorney commercials. They are hilarious, especially the ones in Nashville. Have you seen the Bart Durham ones?
Luvelle Glanton is classic. Using family as actual clients is awesome.

"So Luvelle, who can we use to brag about your ability?"

"Well, there's my uncle and my brother......"

Advertising dollars well spent

Haha, I've seen his as well. Good stuff

Some days I love my profession, but other days I really hate practicing law and consider looking at other fields.

I don't really care what I do for a living, as long as I'm happy and can financially support my family.

Has anyone done a career change from something completely different than what they were doing before?

If so, how did it work out for you and any suggestions?

Thanks!
Adjunct professor? Keep your job and teach a class at night see how it pans out. It would take a while to move up to full time but enough adjunct classes (even multiple schools) you can make good money.

I've considered this. Maybe a local community college or something

You obviously can't detect sarcasm

On the contrary I as the purveyor of lots of it I like to think I can but you may be right.....

I guess I was using too much deductive logic, IE thinking that with your being an attorney you're probably not all that intelligent and or evolved....you need to realize this discussion is very uncomfortable because my wife is an attorney...more importantly she WORKS while I'm retired...I have to be careful...

Must be hard having a wife that wears the pants in your family

I love a good lawyer joke. I don't know if I am that funny though. Would probably get tomatoes thrown at me

I know a couple of lawyers that moved into real estate. One is actually an agent now and the other I use one for real estate transactions at his hourly rate. Most of the time he handles the contract/title/escrow stuff for me - still legal field but he's never in court.

Are you interested in sitting at a desk all day or no?

I might be. I'd be interested in something w real estate

Little terriers nipping at heels, giggling as they attempt to impress one another ….in the 'real world' most of wouldn't have the fortitude to look me in the eyes even to say hello....how old are you people anyway....

This is random.

Did you accidentally post this in the wrong thread?

SDV,

On more serious note, had a mid/young-life crisis and decided I wanted to follow one of my passions and become a history professor, not really teaching but an expert on some obscure history subject.

Quit my job in sales, moved to Chapel Hill, lived in a glorified walk-in closet and delivered pizzas while going to grad school. Took me a year to figure out there is no future in history. Lesson learned was classic grass is not always greener and that the passion was more for a hobby not my entire life.

It helped me look at business world, sales and marketing differently and with renewed energy. Don't have to do your life passion, just something you have some interest in and have some level of enjoyment. Guess it is what others have said, find another part of law you find more interesting. Try to earn enough so you can pursue hobbies to fill voids and make the drudgery portions seem more like speed bumps not mountains.

Imagine your situation is bit different with a family. I had the luxury of being single and crazy at the time.

Good Luck! :good!:

Good stuff, thanks for sharing

Would a different area of law be more appealing? I think some of the guys in the politics forum may be looking for an anti-cival rights attorney. Considering their hatred of welfare programs, I assume they are all loaded and would have no problem paying top dollar.

You could always buy yourself a Lincoln and take on some different clients.

SS also hits on another idea. What if you sold software to lawyers? You're in the biz, know what they do, can talk their language. There's software out there for billing. Just another option.

Another direction - you know that Nash School of Law is right around the corner. Not to say you could walk in the door and say "hi, here to teach a class" but you could see what you could do to get the foot in the door.
