Carr looking to Transfer

Very disappointing because he was my favorite recruit from the '13 class outside of North Seemed to have the potential to be a beast but if he doesn't want to put in the hard work then oh well. Hopefully there won't be too many more defections.

I remember the 13 class coming in I thought he would be the one that would have the most impact on the D.

I hope he doesn't leave. Sounds like he is playing apprehensively based on not wanting to mess up. He is a good athlete and I hope he can work out.

There are a lot of athletes who have a hard time making the transition from highschool to college in the first 2 years. It's only glaring right now because we don't have depth.

Good luck young man.

This is my opinion exactly. I hope he stays too.

So let me get this straight. Coach Jones gave him several warnings that if he doesn't show more effort that he was going to move him to the O-line. Butch doesn't see him respond to the warning so he does move him to the O. Carr then says I want to play defense or I want to transfer. Butch Jones says that he wants to put players in a position that best benefits the team so I hate to see you go but I will grant you a transfer.

Hmmmm. If the men that see him every day on the field aren't happy with his performance and don't see enough there to move him back so that he doesn't leave then he is not a good fit for this team.

I wish him the best of luck. I did have high hopes in him with the departure of McCullers so I hate to see him go.

Good luck big man.

He never lived up to the hype I thought he would come in and be a 3 year starter, that's 2 from that class we thought would be good DT for us and if they had we would be looking at this team a lot different this year, both was 4 stars.

This is what happens when you have insconsistent recruiting, just because he hasn't lived up to the hype yet doesn't mean that its all over for him. He might not ever do much but a lot of players don't adapt to the college game for a few years.Ayers and Meachem didnt make any significant contribution until 2 or 3 years in, then blew up and then were first round picks. I imagine its probably worse for lineman. I hope he stays but if he doesn't I wish him the best of luck going forward.

When u start discussing specifics about a players efforts in practice openly to the media I would expect transfer. Threatening a player that way in private is one thing. Taking that to then public is another.

Also, how would you feel if you were online? Insulted? Yup

Sorry but Butch botched this thing. Puddin legs or not.

Give me a break. That is done all the time to light a fire underneath a player that seems to be lacking passion. I specifically remember Fulmer calling out Turk McBride for being lazy. Also, Urban Meyer gave a lengthy and detailed answer at how disappointed he was in Carlos Dunlap's effort to the media while at Florida. Sometimes prodding a player along works and sometimes it doesn't change anything (both McBride and Dunlap responded well to criticism) but either way football players are not as sensitive as you suggest.

Hyams tweeted out that Carr's main reason for leaving was that he no longer had a passion for the game FWIW.

That says it all to me. The kid just didn't have the drive Butch and Co demands. A Butch practice is brutal compared to others I've seen. I don't have any bad feelings for the kid. He just doesn't fit the mentality of this team.

Yup. You don't have a chance at winning anything in the game of football without passion.

It seems to be Jones way of doing things. He's willy mildly putting Howard's stuff out there too. Funny how when Dooley did this people on here blew up, but Jones is getting a pass.

Now I understand there r some players that could handle it, but unless Jones wanted to force Carrs hand by transferring he botched this for sure. Every kid needs to be handled different. These kind of tactics aren't going to earn him much love by HS coaches or recruits/parents he visits. Everyone bashed Dooley for not being all about the memphis area, and now Jones is going to learn how the "fence" around the state stuff may just have to be brought in just a bit. Leaving the area out.

All these transfers make me wonder if these kids are jumping off a sinking ship...to early??

Clear another spot for Butch to fill with the kind of talent that it takes to win in the SEC. Players that are tough and physical and play with a mean streak and truly hate to lose!

Soooo Carr hates to lose?? Is that going to be put on Dooley too cause he committed to him??

I'm sure to people like u Dooley sat there in his living room and said "son come play for UT cause I'm going to make sure u lose". Carr..."that's all I wanted to hear Coach D. I can't believe that Saban came in here flashing championship rings, and promising championships. Telling me I would be a key factor in maintaining bama's winning tradition. If he only knew I just wanted to lose. Thanks for being honest coach...where do I sign up?!?" smh

It's been so interesting seeing all the CBJ love on here, and hatred towards the players. Seems like so many don't want to just take the middle road of...it just didn't work out for either party.

So you DO ADMIT that Dooley did SOMETHING wrong #PROGRESS. :)

I am speaking in general terms here as there have been clear bright spots in our roster in the last few years.... but:

Players recruited by Kiffin were pretty much punks and cut-ups. Perhaps talented but not trustworthy to stay on the field or stay with the program.

Players recruited by Dooley simply were not SEC material for the most part and didnt belong starting at Kentucky let alone Tennessee. It was a clear drop off in talent, primarily due to Dooley's ineptitude, attitude, and our overall coaching turmoil.

The bottom line is all those players need to be flushed from our system and we need 100% CBJ players to be a contending football team on a regular basis.

Oskie has a pretty good point about the inconsistency many use. My take on calling guys out publicly is that this is a big boy game played in front of 100K people in person and millions on TV. There are no "private" mistakes. If you can't take a coach roughing you up a little like that then you have a decision to make about whether you can take it or not.

That said, some of the same folks who accused DD of throwing players under the bus... are now applauding the same thing AND condemning the kid.

The truth is that some very talented athletes do not have the emotional make up at that age to handle the pressure. Some do not want to dedicate the time and effort that Jones or Dooley or any other coach at that level requires (not suggesting the two are the same). This kind of thing happens. It has happened before (remember Askew?). It will happen again.

The only thing I would add is that Fulmer left the roster in pretty bad shape to start it all off.

Some guys don't have the mentality for this coaching style. I would rather have Carr leave and open up another spot for next year than stay and do nothing.

What other style is there???

A coach that doesn't call out and correct your mistakes is a coach that doesn't care at all!

I don't know what happened or is happening with Carr--but a huge problem today is that people--both adults and their kids--accept mediocrity as a way of life instead of trying to work hard to be excellent!

THE REALITY is that EXCELLENCE and CHAMPIONSHIPS don't come easy--whether it be in the SEC or in LIFE.

I, for one, saw CBJ encouraging and challenging his players to get better and develop NEW HABITS. And, to be truthful, CBJ has challenged me even though I've never met him or even seen him in person.

I love the guy--and he knows the players a lot better than anyone else.

GO VOLS!

:salute:

I couldn't have said it better. I don't believe that Carr is leaving the team over anything that Jones had to say either in public or private. He is either disappointed over the position change and doesn't see a future for himself at Tennessee or he has lost interest in football and is unwilling to commit to the necessary work ethic. I would guarantee that no football player who is so sensitive as to transfer over something a coach said to the local media has the respect of his peers. In fact, I bet his teammates would think that he was a pu**y.

Sometimes it's nobody's fault  It wasn't a good match...let's not overthink it

2nd thread where you've said CBJ has been discussing the situations of both Pig and Carr all "willy nilly" in public. Could you define and/or put in context what you mean by "willy nilly" and then provide examples/quotes/links? I'm really not sure what you mean. Thanks.
