Carry Permit Holders

I thought it might a bit steep myself, but its for the tactical model and I figured the tridium NS sights tacked on about $80-$100. Its a local gun range/shop.

I was out the door with my compact for 460. Fulls were selling for 490 or 530. Cant go wrong with either. Its not a kimber or colt....but its great and reliable in its on manner from what i have read. I wanted to get in the 1911 market and not break the bank. This baby is it.

Thats me too. Its not a flashy gun, but should fit the bill. The price you quoted are about in line with the price of this full size the local shop offered me if you subtract the night sights.

Just thought Id report back in.

I just got back from the range with my new RIA. I elected to get the full size .45 1911 "2011" tactical. As seen here...

VZ Grip

I just put 100 rounds through it without so much as a hiccup. I love the grips on this gun. I was concerned that they might be a bit too aggressive but after firing it, wow! You really feel secure when gripping these things. I will admit I did a little bit of a fluff and buff before taking it out to fire, nothing major, just a little polishing of the feed ramp and throat of barrel. I was able to mantain a nice tight 4-5 inch spread at 15 yards right out of the box. It improved as I continued to shoot. The only thing I would say negative about the gun so far is that it seems to fire a bit to the right (maybe 1-1.5 inches at 15 yards) which I had a second shooter verify. We were both hitting a little to the right of where we were aiming. Nothing major since this gun comes with adjustable rear sights. I figure Ill continue to break it in before I go adjusting anything. Im very happy with this purchase so far.

I got my carry permit back in early 2011. Curious to see what other posters have gotten their permit and what they prefer to carry.

I got mine in Tennessee 6 years ago. It expired out here a few years ago. Utha-open carry. No need to hide.

I have a Glock 23 .40 cal. I really like it.

I need to get my CHL in TX. I had one in TN before I moved here and let it expire.

FYI, the search function does not work on strings less than 4 characters for some reason.

1911s are a little big to conceal IMO. I have a full size .45 that I use for the house.

$50 fine. Been charged 5 times with it. Seriously no big deal.

That doesn't sound right. It was always my understanding that if you were carrying a handgun in public without a license that you would probably get arrested and pay a bigger fine.

Also, how did you get caught 5 times? Traffic stops?

Just to clarify, now it is a arrestable offense. Back in the day as long as you were not a gangster with a criminal record, the charge was unlawful possession of a firearm. Now, the penalties are heftier as I believe it is a class A misdemeanor in TN. I have about two more years until I can carry legally (stupid DUI). I carry legally at work as I own the property, unfortunately when I am away from my house or work I do choose to break the law and protect myself from others who might choose to break the law also. This is a crazy world we live in today.

Ok, so I have a Glock 23, which is a .40 compact. If I were to get another gun at some point, I think I'd like to get a .45 or 1911. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm also leaning towards a Sig, or possibly an H&K.

Whatchu guys think?

It would have been cheaper to get a permit.

The carry course can run anywhere from $65-130. I paid $80 when I took the class at The Gun Room in Lebanon (Middle Tennessee) - best indoor range I've ever been to, BTW. They also recycle their rounds and sell them pretty cheap when you buy in bulk.

But anyway, it was $80 for the course, $115 for the application, gas money for driving to the class, the DMV, and the place they take your finger prints. Adds up to more than $200. You have to jump through a lot of hoops, and it takes forever. I'm really hoping mine will come in the mail soon. Been wanting to carry at work for some time now (like my boss does).

Oh yeah, you also need to buy 48 rounds for the carry permit course, so another $10-20, depending on what kind of gun you have.

I like those sigs too. Nice and compact.

I haven't seen a single mention of H&K in this thread (Heckler & Koch). Anyone have any experience with these? My boss has some king of 9x19, and it's so sweet. Smoothest firing I've ever experienced. This one has caught my eye, .45
