Cases of West and Jurick, my take

If any of that is true then I lost a lot of respect for Pearl and I didn't have the most respect for him to begin with compared to some of the worshippers on here.
I want to see the slimy Pearlophiles who were shredding Cal for telling some players and recruits Kentucky might not be the best place for them spin this. Pearl recruited the kid, who in turn did everything that was asked of him. Then, his prospective head coach turns his back on him. Pearl makes Rick Stansbury look like a paragon of virtue.

I just don't see what CBP thinks he will accomplish with this move.
You're talking about a guy who tape recorded a conversation with a 17 year old kid and makes jokes about other men's wives. Face it, he's slimy. He thinks four straight NCAA trips makes him above it all. In that respect, he's nothing more than the Jewish Jerry Green.

I just really wanted to like what he was selling. The first couple of years really put blinders on most (including me) but there are just some major cracks starting to show. Wonder if anyone will bring this up on the BO caravan love tour?

He originated the infatuation with Layla nonsense on the BO love tour.

The longer he's here, the more he's going to prove everything I've said about both his coaching acumen and his character to be true.

Yea, hate to say it, but I started buying into your views on him. Not hating you are right, just hating UT has to deal with it.

Hat surely never misses a chance to pile on.

Give me a break. West was recruited to play last year, when we needed a point guard. He didn't get in. The staff advised him to go to Juco. He chose to stay in hopes of earning a spot in 09. It is unfortunate for sure, but until I hear Pearl say that West was promised a spot in 09, I'm not going to pass judgement.

And for the record, some people need to read the board rules about taking personal shots at players and/or coaches.

He initially claimed he never taped a conversation with Deon Thomas and still claims he didn't follow him to Europe during his recruitment, despite evidence to the contrary. Pearl is what we call in the legal business an easily impeached witness. Credibility isn't his long suit.

Only on those who richly deserve it. It appears people around the state are starting to finally clue in about Pearl. Better late than never.

Saw him speak tonight at the Sertoma Center benefit tonight at The Foundry. I've certainly got mixed feelings about him.

To say some of the shine has worn off is an understatement for me.

Sucks for West, but it's a business. You can have your plug pulled by the boss at any time. Dog eat dog.

I understand that life is tough and hard. But this is an extreme case of a tough life lesson learned. The guy paid his dues (literally and figuratively), had Pearl lie to his HS coach just over a month ago, and ended getting a $20,000 shaft... plus wasted a year of eligibility.

You would think, if he is so easily impeached, you could find something in the last 20 years -- since the Deon Thomas incident was, in what, 1989? Get over it.

There's plenty in the last 20 years. Hell, he flat out lied to West's high school coach in the last 20 days.

But Tennessee had nothing to do with him not getting in school and wasting a year of eligibility. Blame it on West or the NCAA but not Tennessee.

What was the lie to his HS coach? Regarding West being in good shape?

Did Pearl ever tell his coach that there was a scholly with his name on it? Or just that West was going to be eligible, period?

Plenty? Riiiiiight.

I heard today that Pearl's statement was in regard to West's academic standing - not his scholarship. There are two sides to every story. It may be a misunderstanding or the truth may even be somewhere in the middle, but I'm not about to take the word of West's high school coach as absolute fact....just because (you think) Pearl's credibility is shot from something that happened 20 years ago.

There is no evidence, that I'm aware of, that Daniel West was guaranteed a spot on Tennessee's roster after he failed to qualify in 08.

At the Final Four, Pearl told his high school coach that West was going to make it. Pretty low rent.

His peers think he's trash and have no problem reciting the reasons they think so at length. Pretty much nobody who has been in a league where he was a head coach or assistant has the first modicum of respect for him. That's good enough for me.

That is from the mouth of Pearl's high school coach. The word today was that Pearl told him he was going to make it 'academically'.

I wonder... it seems to me that Tennessee wasn't expecting to lose a scholarship from APR. Is that possible?
