CBJ Pre-Spring Presser...

Dude sjt you must have read selectively... after reading the entire transcript, I don't know how you can construe anything he said as making an excuse. If anything, he implied the team was at the tipping point of transitioning into the type of squad he wants (see the "transcending mindset of the entire football team" bit).

He also stated several times that they are way ahead of where they were last year. If he were trying to temper expectations, I dont think he did a very good job.

Freak posted the transcripts. Read it for yourself.

Jones' early comments on practice have not had the same "flavor". He seems pretty excited and less reserved.

If you don't like someone to tell the truth then your helpless.
If someone needed to criticize you "truthfully" about your job performance and future prospects, would you want it to be in front of your whole work group or in private?

If you need a sunshine pumper to tell you that we will go undefeated and we have the best team in America, then listen to James Franklin talk (according to him, Penn State can walk on water and they are bowl elgible next year).

Jones has a catchall "we're not where we should be but everyone is working hard"... that works. It doesn't put anyone down. It doesn't suggest that guys who are working their tails off to be "depth" just aren't good enough.

If you were a guy on the team who was working to be a good player and your coach effectively blamed you for the team lacking the talent to compete at a high level... how would you feel?

If you are ever in Missouri, let me know. I will take you on a tour. Or better yet, you can play "secret shopper" for me to see what kind of attitudes you encounter.

Pro Tip: If someone goes out of their way to say they hate drama, large quantities of drama will ensue

Playing secret shopper is fun. You can totally tell who's successful or not by using instincts.

You are welcome any time... This board is a pastime. It is fun to banter and argue when there's really nothing at stake. It isn't life or work.

It can be. I wish my company would use them. The closest thing we have right now is our "complaint line". My boss' boss (who was one of the ones who was pretty critical at first) began to come around when people called our corporate complaint line and raved about the service they got in my facility.

Get the right people. Get the right results.

I agree with your business principles, and I plan on running mine the same way. You always should be in touch with your customers.

I really do hate to start this... but I read the entire transcript and saw WAY more "we're young" talk... (aka we can't be any good because we're young). Maybe it sounded different but it read like excuse making before excuses were needed... like 6 months before they were needed.

Dooley took heat and probably rightly so for saying that his team "wasn't very good" at that point. Jones did almost the same thing when he said, " We are not anywhere close to where we need to be in relative to being an elite program." It might be a true statement... but what is the value in saying it?

31 new additions mostly true freshmen. It is what it is.
