CBJ: "Vols Long Way From Finding Starter"

I think this is coach speak by Jones to keep all 4 QBs competing. Everything thing I've read on VQ says Worley is the starter and even tho Riley is pushing, Petermen is the backup.

What information are you basing this off of?

He was the last qb to arrive on campus, already taking 2nd team snaps. Prasied by CBJ while Rod Jr has not been (but he took a pic throwing with Peyton!) The right attitude, won every game in high school but 2 (I think). The way I see it is everyone that was praising Dobbs as the new Rod Wilks are down playing Ferg. Why? I have no clue really but as enough time goes by to save face from being wrong ppl will claim they were full ferg from the rip. The kids gonna be a star. Just needs to put on some weight IMO

Exactly two weeks until game day and Butch still doesn't have a starting QB. That sure says a lot about Worley.

our inexperienced passing game even more. Chemistry issues with new receivers. I think we'll see at least two QBs playing in the first two games, and maybe even three. If there is no clear leader, put them out there and see which one shows best.

The kid will probably end up being a good QB for us in the future but to say by the Georgia game? I don't think at all this season. And one should hope not because in all honesty if worley gets pulled by Georgia game then we are sucking and that shouldnt happen with our oline and dline

I did not say I hoped he would start. But I think he will start for the reasons you fear most. I am not sold on Worley.

If Butch is a long way from finding a starter at QB with 2 weeks before the 1st game, well, what does this say for the UT Vols? Doesn't sound too encouraging, does it? At least we'll be the best dressed in our new uniforms. Maybe the QB position is overrated, remember when Kentucky played a wide receiver at QB and ran almost the same play repeatedly and was victorious. No worries, Butch has a plan, brick by brick.

The fact that CBJ hasn't named Worley the starter yet makes me feel like he wants to go in another direction. Also he could be pushing Worley to show more by not guaranteeing him the job. Just my two cents

More than likely it means that he wants every one of those guys to push each other as hard as they can until the day he feels he needs to name a starter... which will be in no more than 8 days. He knows that enduring pressure is good for a QB. They will certainly face it in games... he has openly said he wants to create as much stress and pressure as he can for the whole team. Holding off on naming a starter and assuring the battle stays hot is a very good way to do that for the QB's.

From every appearance including the late compliments to Ferguson, Worley is still at #1.

Come on. We know Dobbs is a shoe-in at some point this season. No offense to the two other chumps......I mean QBs.

JMO but Worley will start and Ferguson will be 2nd string, Dobbs 3rd string and Peterman transfers.

Living in Charlotte (unfortunately) I have seen Ferguson and Worley play in big HS games. Both were very impressive...when Worley had a chance to "shine" on ESPN against Clowney and company in HS he put up perhaps the best clutch performance I've ever seen in a HS game...IIRC he threw for 4 touchdowns in the second half...1 of which with Clowney hanging off of his jersey.
Ferguson was equally impressive in that Butler almost NEVER lost..he flat dominated in the toughest division of HS ball in NC. I know Dooley was terrible but I wonder if Worleys struggles are entirely Dooleys fault or if there's a problem between his ears? Did the punishment from his freshmen year destroy his confidence? It worries me that he hasn't slammed the door on the other QB's yet... is Ferguson too good to keep off the field or is Worley just "damaged goods"? We will know for sure in a month or so.

So, this is the pocket present mentioned earlier!?

A poster made a typo (spellchecker likely got him/her) in a recent thread about Dobbs and instead of writing 'pocket presence,' typed out 'pocket presents.'

I am beginning to think that Ferguson has at least a 50-50 chance to take the starting job. He is a talent and now he is catching on to the system I think we see a lot of him before the season is over.

Anything can happen, Dobbs may very well find his groove too. And I have heard praise from him too...just not as much as Ferg. Don't hear much about Peterman either, good or bad. The word on Worley is basically good but not spectacular. Worley, Dobbs and Peterman are both getting better but not as rapidly as Ferg. So he is closing the gap with Worley...fast!

If CBJ wants Ferg to be the man, he will start sooner rather than later. AP and WKY are much better to start out with than GA, SC, etc.

You Arabian? Mad at Dobbs? I mean that business with the shoe-in suggests you plan to throw one at him. It's a culture thing, I know, but. . . . :)

Maybe no QB has stepped up their game. Maybe they all have stepped up their game. I'm prone to believe the latter but it is hard to tell with both new QBs and new WRs. just because there isn't any separation between the QBs doesn't mean they all suck. It probably means they are all at the same talent level...which is good, not great (yet).
