CBJ: "Vols Long Way From Finding Starter"

If we put on our thinking caps and go back to last year...didn't Bray look horrible in the O&W game and the first few weeks of fall camp?

Didn't our Defense look horrible in fall practice until ... oh never mind.

Ferguson came here to compete for the starting position and that is just what he is doing. That is what we need, serious healthy competition to find the man that wants to lead the Vols.

My question is. How do so many people so easily get entrenched in a "stance" concerning who should be the starting QB, when they have little or no data from an actual college game? We have almost nothing but hearsay and veiled coach-speak combined with a few free toss vids and possibly an eye test at today's practice and the OW game from months back. That aint much data.

Then you have to fall back on HS highlight vids and regional folklore. They all look like Joe Montana in the playoffs there. Remember how Devonte Bourque (sp?) shredded all those HS defenses? Jamal Lewis did the same. Who knows what were really gonna get when they step on the field.

If I was forced to take a position on who the starter should be I would settle with Worley, simply based on his time on campus. But, if I were asked to convince the Board of Directors of a company as to the reasons for "him" (or any of them) based on evidence and quality forecasting, then I would expect to be fired soon after such a presentation.

It's interesting to discuss these 4 kids, but man, how could anyone possibly get dogmatic about the true value of any of them? Just askin'.

"A long way from FINDING a starter" and two weeks till kickoff is a type of oxymoron to me.

Now that is a good question but much like a zen koan it's probably one that has many answers and yet no single definitive answer. Broadly speaking, I think people start out just relating to or liking to a certain player, take up a fandom, and after being argued with by someone who likes or relates to another player who is vying for the same spot, they become bullheaded and determined to be 'right.' Online the snide and denigrating comments people make to one another just entrench people even more.

That said, I think all of our QB candidates have something special about them and like them all.

Actually after seeing what I saw tonight I have every right to be concerned and to question who the starter is going to be. I see why everybody has an opinion and we all have the right to one. This thing is wide the F open. Nobody has stepped up and shown anything.

A poster made a typo (spellchecker likely got him/her) in a recent thread about Dobbs and instead of writing 'pocket presence,' typed out 'pocket presents.'
It's nothing new. It's been a running joke around here for years.

I'm not sure who the QB will be by seasons end but I don't think it will be Worley .
