No Butch Jones after the garbage he had to clean up from Dooley and Kiffin -- screw those rankings

I honestly can't believe Butch Jones is not in the top 25 from this poll. He should be anyhow. No lower than top 15-20 if you ask me with the turnaround for this football program.

Miles, Patterson, Stoops, & Malzahn too high.

most of those guys have titles associated with their name. hard to drop them too far. I would drop them each a point or two, but for most I don't think the guys below are really any better.

Butch hasn't proven anything yet. you only get rings and titles at the end of the season for winning not for getting better.

I find it funny that Richt is ranked with Miami and he hasn't coached a game there. and I wouldn't rank Bielema at Arkansas in the top 25.

Im thinking they may have taken into account what some of these guys have done as OC's, DC's, etc. "football" coaches, not necessarily just as head coaches.

Chris Petersen hasn't done much, yet, to earn the #14 P5 ranking.

Current position

Title Head coach
Team Washington
Conference Pac-12
Record 15–12

You're right. Richt shouldn't even be in there either. You also say Bielema shouldn't be in there too & I agree so why wouldn't Butch be more deserving to replace over Bielema who's at #22?

Bielema won the Big 10 a couple of times. That's why he should be over Jones.

Because he lost to him.

Fair enough but I feel there's got be at least one coach from that list that Butch is a better coach than at this time. He hasn't won anything in the SEC yet. I understand that.

Maybe Chris Peterson from Washington or Petrino from Louisville? I can't remember if Petrino won any conference titles or not. I know Peterson did while at Boise State.

Maybe Butch doesn't deserve to be in there when you really evaluate who's on that list. I don't like Richt being there either but they're using his coaching history from Georgia.

If Butch hadn't lost the Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas, he'd be on the list IMO

Butch has proven to be a top 25 recruiter. This list is more about in game charts. Butchs chart is not a top 25 chart. Yet.

I'd personally choose Butch over most of these coaches, knowing what he does for a program in its entirety.

On the other hand, coaching is one those ultimate "show me" jobs where you are precisely as good as the results you achieve. So far, Butch has achieved many intangibles, and not a single piece of hardware that didn't come from a middling bowl game.

He will earn his place on this list in the future, and hopefully very high on it. But 'earn' is the operative word.

Go Vols!

I could understand the list if it required putting in some time to get the higher rank. But then how would you explain Helfrich?

Won't be long before Jim McELwain and Kirby Smart are working their way up the food chain. Butch better make hay this season while the sun's still up. Soon going to be a total eclipse.

Yeah, it's all downhill for us after this season, unfortunately, We will be battling Vandy again for bowl eligibility.

Who is your special teams coach? Maybe we can scrounge up the cash to hire him. Anything to get back on the Saban tree!

Stars don't get eclipsed in shadow, elephant fan. They aren't always visible but they do always make their own light.

Kirby and McElwain can run along in Butch's stardust for the next 20 years, we're good with that. Who knows, maybe Saban will have to fall in line, as well.

Go Vols!

McELwain already one and 0. Smart won't take long to get up to speed. Compared to Mark Richt, I'm predicting the passing lane.
