CBS Top 25 P5 Coaches For 2016

Butch has proven to be a top 25 recruiter. This list is more about in game charts. Butchs chart is not a top 25 chart. Yet.

Rightly or wrongly, he got a ton of negative press last year for blowing/totally mishandling the Florida and Oklahoma games. We all know what a great job he's done turning the program around here, but nationally?....don't think he's well regarded as a top 25 gameday coach for sure. As a matter of fact, it's probably just the opposite IMO.

Art Briles needs to be top 5. He turned a perennial cellar dweller into one of the most feared teams in college football.

He used a 4th string QB to beat a 11-2 UNC squad. Baylor rushed for over 600 yds in that game. They averaged over 300 yds passing and 300 yds rushing per game. His offense is insane.

Kirk Ferentz at 19 is a joke!! He finally had one good season... after how many years!! He was on the hot seat entering last season for crying out loud!

McELwain already one and 0. Smart won't take long to get up to speed. Compared to Mark Richt, I'm predicting the passing lane.

Richt was a little above average. Smart will not settle for anything near average. He has the Saban drive.

I'm guessing that most of these coaches have had a team ranked in the top 10 at some point. Don't know if CBJ has ever had a team ranked that high or not. If and when he does, his stock will go up.

No homer- Butch belongs in the top 25 IMO

I agree. I also do not think Miles is a top 5 coach anymore. What happened to Phil has happening to him. He's lost his mojo. The last couple years even Dabo is coaching better than Miles etc. If he don't produce this year he'll be retiring.

What's your homer-free argument for Jones?

And I don't mean any snark. There are some on this list I take issue with, so I'm genuinely curious as to your take.

Even the blinde can see the trajectory that Tennessee is on. I would think that you of all people would know this. You was so close to losing in Tuscaloosa last year.

I think, actually I'm sure, that the list takes into consideration the entire body of work of the coach. There are a lot of teams that have potential and may make big strides. But until they do, the list is what it is.

At first I really wasnt going to have a problem with Butch not being on the list, but some of the names on the list...Yeah Butch should of made the cut.

Butch Jones career record at Central Michigan, Cincy, Tennessee, against top 25 teams:

3 wins and 18 losses.

Not ready for prime time.

That's pretty much where I come down. I understand that he inherited a bad situation and has done very well with what he had. But I can't really see the argument for "potential" putting him over coaches who have a lot of big time wins.
