CBS Top 25 P5 Coaches For 2016

Art Briles needs to be top 5. He turned a perennial cellar dweller into one of the most feared teams in college football.

He used a 4th string QB to beat a 11-2 UNC squad. Baylor rushed for over 600 yds in that game. They averaged over 300 yds passing and 300 yds rushing per game. His offense is insane.

UNC was the worst 11-2 team I have ever seen. south carolina beat them running as well.

Two of those 11 wins were against FCS teams weren't they?

NC AT&T and Delaware. Not 100% if both of them are but yeah.

I will say that Fedora (sp?) lost NC the SC game. should have ran Hood, SC couldn't stop him. that was way more inexcusable than Butch against Florida or Oklahoma.

I can see why CBJ isn't in the Top 25. I wouldn't put Richt (fired), Malzahn (hot seat), Bielema or Freeze on the list, either.

I think, actually I'm sure, that the list takes into consideration the entire body of work of the coach. There are a lot of teams that have potential and may make big strides. But until they do, the list is what it is.

In my humble opinion Butch winning conference championships in two different conferences is no small thing. It's not like he hasn't been good, it's just that he hasn't won one, yet, here at Tennessee. He will and his body of work leads me to believe that.

Every coach on the list has won a conference title, most in the Power 5.

most of those guys have titles associated with their name. hard to drop them too far. I would drop them each a point or two, but for most I don't think the guys below are really any better.

Butch hasn't proven anything yet. you only get rings and titles at the end of the season for winning not for getting better.

I find it funny that Richt is ranked with Miami and he hasn't coached a game there. and I wouldn't rank Bielema at Arkansas in the top 25.

It's a HC ranking, not a team ranking. I still don't think he's a Top 25 coach.

Miles is a top 10 coach. Don't let the narratives fool you.

Narratives... like me posting last summer that he was on the hot seat? You mean "narratives" like that?

BTW, I was attacked from all sides over that informed opinion, and guess what? LSU should have fired
his a$$, he's out of his element.

He could use a change of scenery, but he's an excellent coach. His players play hard for him and he's won a lot of big games.

I talk about narrative because he says some dumb things and eats grass. But he also beat Saban a few times and won a national title. There are really only 5 or 6 elite guys; there aren't 10 better than Miles IMO

Absolutely agree. It is easy to get head-faked by Miles' idiosyncrasies. But the dude can coach. Be brighter than much of the media, see past his mannerisms, look at his results on the field. He definitely belongs on that list, and closer to the top than the bottom. Just 'cause he's goofy that doesn't mean he's not football-brilliant.
