I wish they would tear up Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Boring ass tracks. Also Valencia.

Texas race was a bore fest. better rip up the track.

Agreed.........

Since Texas, Atlanta, Vegas, Kentucky, and Charlotte are all basically the same they could shorten Texas to 1 mile, make it progressively banked from about 20-30 degrees in the corners with a high banked dogleg at the start-finish line.

That race last night was honestly the worst NASCAR Cup race in a good 3-4 years easily. With Kansas this weekend the odds of a better race HAVE to be a bit better but not much.

At least with Michigan and Pocono coming up in June this year they will be very interesting again with the new pavement. At Michigan they were hitting 215 down the backstretch in the test this week and running 190-195 MPH lap averages. If they don't put plates on at MIS it will be like Daytona/Dega for a couple of years with a crapton of drafting.

And at Pocono Matt Kenseth was quoted saying that he thinks without plates they'll be hitting 230 going into Turn 1. THAT will be an attention getter.

230 mph in a 3400lb tin can.

Crazy. I sorta want to see that, but the part of me that doesent want to see a race full of dead drivers and fans says stop!

Where did Kenseth make that quote, DownNDirty? I'm not doubting you, but I was just wondering if anything else about Pocono's repaving is being said.

How does a repaved straight-a-way produce that much more speed? I know they will carry more speed out of 3, but geez the front stretch is like 8 miles long, seems like they would be 'wound out' going into turn 1 regardless of the exit speed of turn 3 or the new pavement. It is more of a drag stip with a running start, not sure how new pavement gets you that much more speed than the old pavement.

I'll try to find the quote if I can. I read the plethora of NASCAR articles almost daily and remember perusing that somewhere last week. The reason they'd be able to get that much speed though is the fact that the entire track will be faster. If they can carry 20 extra MPH through the slowest part of the track they can tweak the gear ratios enough to where they could hit a much higher speed at the end of the main straightaway. At least that's how I take it to be........and I could be wrong.

Good thing Kansas is using the same genius solution Bristol is.

They are two totally different tracks. Kansas lends itself well to 2 or 3 wide racing, Bristol doesn't. 2 wide racing at Bristol is BORING, and the 50,000 who showed up in March are a testament to that. The old style of beating and banging and truly having to work to make a pass is much more fun to watch on a short track.

Kansas has always been boring imo. I don't really blame the surface for it, though. It's just one of those wide, kind of flat tracks that seems to turn stock car races into high speed parades. At least Sunday's finish was decent.

I saw lots of empty seats today during an overhead shot of the grandstand. I think it might be time to repave the track.

I realize that from the vantage point of how difficult it is to drive a track like Pocono and just the change up that it provides the drivers from the usual cookie-cutter tracks, Pocono has a lot of merit. But God, it is BORING to watch on tv. Fortunately NASCAR wised up and shortened the parade by 100 miles for both of the races there this season.

the difference is, Bristol was once by far the hottest ticket in nascar and now they don't even come close to selling out. bristol has always sold itself as a short throwback dirt style track. that means leaning on each other and plenty of excitement. it was unique in that aspect on the circuit. that is why it appealed to so many. yeah the economy is down, but if the racing was close to what it used to be there the fans would go period. like it or not, that is what the fans want and that is what bruton is giving them. it's not hard to understand. the customer is always right.

of course them demanding money from season ticket holders a year in advance didn't help their cause either.

It has nothing to do with the track. Attendance is down everywhere. Nobody is selling out, and the decline came for everybody at the same time. It's really not that hard to understand.
