Charges Dropped in the Jussie Smollett Case

Empire star Jussie Smollett maintains his innocence and calls court hearing 'a dog and pony show' after being Re-Charged with Faking Race Attack and Lying to Cops

Actor Jussie Smollett is maintaining his innocence as he faces new charges for allegedly lying to police officers about a January 2019 attack.

The 'Empire' star was seen entering Chicago court on Wednesday wearing a blue suit with a lighter blue blazer to face six counts of felony misconduct for allegedly lying to police about the racist and homophobic attack.

In an interview with FOX News, the former 'Empire' star denied that he lied to the police about a January 2019 attack and called the proceedings 'a dog and pony show'

Smollett, 39, was indicted by a special prosecutor with six counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report in February 2020, more than one year after the actor claimed two masked men attacked him as he was walking home.

Smollett was then hit with a 16-count grand jury indictment and faced more than 50 years behind bars — until State's Attorney Kim Foxx suddenly dropped all the charges last March in exchange for him doing community service.

It was a decision that blindsided and outraged Chicago's former mayor Rahm Emanuel and former Chief of Police Eddie Johnson.

This guy is some kind of special. I watched Chapelle’s stand up gig about Jussie Smollet, absolutely priceless. He just excoriates Smollet. Jussie seems to be the only one not living in the reality of what he’s done.

Jussie Smollett criminal trial to move forward after judge Denies to dismiss case

A judge on Friday denied a last-ditch effort to dismiss a criminal case against actor Jussie Smollett, who is accused of lying to police when he reported that he was the victim of a racist, anti-gay attack in downtown Chicago in January 2019.

An attorney for the former "Empire" actor said Smollett's rights were being violated since he had already performed community service and given up a $10,000 bond under a previous deal with Cook County prosecutors to drop charges.

But Judge James Linn noted that Smollett's case now was being led by a special prosecutor appointed by another judge, an arrangement that he would not upset.

Smollett, a gay Black man, told police in 2019 that two masked men attacked him when he was in Chicago working on "Empire." But he was charged weeks later with filing a false police report, after investigators concluded that he staged the attack and paid two brothers to carry it out because he was unhappy about his salary and wanted to promote his career. That case, however, was dropped.

Jussie Smollett arrives with his family at court for his Hoax Race Attack trial: Judge asks potential jurors if they ever watched Empire or read TMZ before seating six ahead of opening arguments

  • Smollett told police in January 2019 that he was attacked in the middle of the night by two MAGA-hat wearing, racist, 'light skinned men' who used racist and homophobic slurs against him
Jussie Smollett's hoax attack trial is almost underway and six jurors have been selected after being quizzed by a judge on whether or not they ever watched Empire, the show he starred in, or read TMZ, a celebrity news website.

Half of the jury has been selected now and opening arguments are expected before the end of Monday.

Smollett, 39, was charged with six counts of felony disorderly conduct in February 2020, a year after the incident. Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of three years, but it's likely he would be sentenced to probation if found guilty.

Yeah, I watched some video of him on TV just a bit ago crying and sniffling as he described the attack at the time.

Quite reminiscent of Kyle Rittenhouse. Seriously. Very similar affect and obviously fake as hell.

Did you watch it? Seriously, be honest. It was a charade.

Who gives a f***? One dude faked a hate crime because of his TDS. You make stupid comments all the time due to TDS. Those are the only things relatable. KR killed pos criminals who assaulted him because he interfered with their looting and rioting.

Are you an actual trial lawyer or do you always try to settle before it gets to court? Serious question.

I try on average one case a year. Win a lot on summary judgment prior to then. Have 4-6 appeals going at any given time.
