Chase Burns

Who cares?! They’re both Vols. We are so fortunate to have both.
He asked me, so I’d say he cares. I just answered the question. I’d leave Burns at Friday spot and just drop Tidwell in on Sunday, assuming you’re pulling Beam out of the rotation. I think Burns is ahead of where Tidwell was last March and I expect him to be better than Tidwell, but personally I don’t think he’s as good at this moment in time.

Why does someone have to the best, can’t we have a staff that throws heat? C’mon people. We just beat a traditional powerhouse at their place on a Friday night with a Freshman. Geez.
It’s just a normal conversation man, don’t get so bent out of shape. Burns was spectacular. Tidwell was spectacular last year. It’s a win win.

We have an embarrassment of riches right now. I am certainly not complaining!

im not saying change anything .. kid is a stud ... and he has to adjust his hat every pitch then so be it .. looks like its too small for his head and comes off almost after every pitch ..that would drive me crazy .lol .... he takes and pull down on sides to tighten it after every pitch ..maybe thats part of his routine .... keep doing it young man .. impressive .

Let’s not forget this “kid” shut down TX and made them look silly. I was at the SC game as well and they were baffled by the slider. The road SEC is a different beast but he’s got the stuff. Excited to see him compete tonight!
This is why I thought it was kinda funny that people were saying this would be the first "test" for Burns. Ummm he had already faced TX and SCAR.

Agree with all but the last part. I’m not sure Tidwell ever pitched as well at any point last year as Burns has pitched this year. And since he hasn’t pitched at all this year, that’s all we can go by. Until I see Tidwell pitch this year and take it up a level, I have to say Burns is better.

I’ll also say this…I’ve been a UT baseball fan since 89-90…and Burns is the best freshman pitcher at UT since RA Dickey. He may even be better by the time the season is over.

That’s fair. I was just very impressed with what Tidwell did in postseason play.

Maybe the hat adjustment somehow affects the batter's concentration. The average player would want a hat that fits right and stays in place. I mean I thought about it, "why don't this guy get a hat that fits" and I'm pulling for him. It's definitely not affecting CB up till now so don't expect any changes.

Last nights announcers briefly mentioned Burn's slider and how it tails off differently at the plate. I didn't pay much attention to how many pitches he has in his arsenal, being just a freshman, but attempting to add an additional type of pitch is a process that can take awhile until a pitcher is actually comfortable using it in a game. He's a great pick-up for Vitello and the Vols and can only help us garner more productive players in the future. Also mentioned was this team is developing a certain "swagger" related to their confidence. Gonna take in a series one weekend as I've never seen the Vols baseball team live.

Well said, 66. We have a stable of studs. Don’t need to try and prove that any of them are “the best”. They can do that in June.
