I disagree on your not throwing that many innings scenario. Kirby threw over 100 innings every year for four year between school ball and summer travel ball from 9th grade through 11th grade. Only threw 87 his senior year because he did not play a full summer due to enrolling early. I would say almost all of these guys were the same way in high school because they were the studs of their teams. As has been said, the poster that said he did not have another pitch was wrong. Friday night he used four different pitches so he does not need another pitch. No need to throw more than four pitches.

Ya know, we’ve been discussing how it’s a great problem to have what amounts to 4 weekend starters when Tidwell comes back (hell, that’s arguably 4 Friday night guys). And that’s not even accounting for Halvorsen, who was Missouri’s Friday starter last year.

Maybe this is where that luxury comes into play: let Burns sit out a weekend (like Missouri) and start Tidwell, Dollander, and Beam that weekend. You could rotate those 4 among the 3 spots to keep them all fresh for the postseason. Just a thought. With the depth of starters this team has, there’s no reason not to get a lot of rest for them.

Creative idea. Not sure how it works for college pitchers, but I know from observations over a long time that starters in the pros like to establish a routine that doesn't change. For example, you rarely if ever see a pro starter simply miss a start in the rotation and pick it up the next time it comes around again just to rest - sometimes if he needs rest he'll be bumped a day or two for some extra rest between starts.

I would stretch Tidwell out in relief appearances, gradually progressing with innings and intensity of leverage situations. Then, when ready, insert him into the midweek starter spot until he shows me he has his great stuff again, then I would insert him into the friday night start slot, pushing the other guys down and pushing the sunday starter to the mid-week starter. Blade is our only starter who pitched a complete season in the SEC and at Hoover and the regionals and Omaha. That experience makes him the bell-cow of this staff. We need a guy like that to lead us into battle each weekend.

I could see Tidwell in relief when needed. Be hard to beat us matched with either of the starters on a day when the offense is not clicking…. Just my thoughts , love the build up. So much depth on the mound. I love our lefty’s too
