Chavis vs. UNC

I had no problem with the defense tonight... trust me I ***** about Chavis all the time. I thought they were much more aggressive especially on 3rd.

The offense is the problem.

Bet you change your mind if North Carolina completed the touchdown or got the penalty for another chance.

LSU's defense let North Carolina march 60 yards in the final minute of the game.

Some idiots never learn that playing soft lets the opposition march down the field. Can he not retain any memory from previous games????

Chavis really ought to be pictured in the Wikipedia article on the definition of insanity. He does the same thing over and over and over no matter how many time he loses.

We watched this for 15 years. If the UNC QB throws the ball to the other shoulder on the second to last play, then you lose, thanks to Chavis. Trust me, you're going to grow to hate having a lead in a close game with a couple of minutes left.

Remember that 2006 game in Knoxville, where Russell threw the winning TD on the last play of the game after driving down the field with almost no time left? Get used to being on the other side of that.

My god read, I said I am not a Chavis fan but this was not a D issue... the offense should have possessed the ball at least 10 minutes more of the clock.

Of course, the freaking D was out there the whole game. They played aggressive... Look I am not a chavis fan but this was Crowton's problem.

Ok. Don't say we didn't warn you though. We've seen that defense many, many times. That's why he doesn't coach here anymore.

You don't read. I said I am not a fan of Chavis. How many times do I need to write that... I agree that we got burned by Chavis last year.

That is beside the point, they played aggressive, they shut down NC completely even on 3rd down until the lack of offense and time of the field set in.

I don't know what you think I am not listening to... but this game wasn't this close because of the D... there was no offense.

1:08 at UNC 27
0:00 at LSU 6

They went 67 yards in 1:08. That's a defensive problem considering it almost cost them the game.

I'm not denying that A) your offense sucks, or B) that Les Miles is a four million dollar joke. But when you look at a Tennessee board for our take on that game, we're naturally going to be laughing about the fact that good old John Chavis is still is same old predictable self, except that now it's funny because it's somebody else's problem. I swear that the best thing about this whole Fulmer/Kiffin/Dooley thing the last few years is that we no longer have to suffer through Chavis's fabulous Prevent Defense. Best of luck to you guys with him.

I don't believe Chavis was his same ole self... trust me they sending the heat.. by the middle of the second half the D was done.

NC didn't do crap against the D until well into the 2nd half.

No offense. D did a great job in the 1st half. I saw nothing wrong with it.

I do read, but you aren't listening to this. It was because of the D. 100% because of the D. I don't care how bad that offense was, Chavis playing prevent defense with a 20 point lead and getting lucky on two final plays within the 10 to escape with a victory is to blame. If you're up 30 to 10 going into the 4th and you almost lose, that's your D's fault. Plain and simple.

That's well put. The Good Ole Boys Club is what kept him here. When that collapsed he was gone. Should have been sent packing years and years ago.

Yeah... that's what Chavis does when he has the lead. He drops everyone back and it gets picked apart.

The offense had 4 first downs in the 2nd half... sorry buddy watch the game and only 11 for the whole game. The D was shutting them down early but the offense didn't do crap.

My quote was that the D let them back into the game. 436 yards is not exactly a stellar night on D, especially with their number one running back and wide reciever out.

They played tight the whole game... you were not watching the game if you think they were slacking up... that is why they got some deep ball.

Heck, I am usually with you guys on this... I was screaming at the TV last year when he pulled that crap... but they were not playing slack... it was tight most of the night... all you had to do is listen to the announcers.

lol. Seriously, I wish you could understand how funny it is to read this.

I wish you could understand how funny it is to read this. Did you watch the game... the D completely shut the down in the first half. This is a fact, LSU's offense should have had 21 points up on the board in the first 8 minutes of the game.

No one is debating that. We know! We know it more than you can even fathom. We're talking about the 4th quarter and the 4th quarter only.

Don't you understand - NO LEAD is safe with 3rd down Chavis!!! 50 points is not enough. He will purposely have the D play soft so the opposition can get back in the game. Could he shave points??? Even a retard is not that stupid.

D was tanked... you should have seen all the Redshirt Freshman on the field. Heck, Peterson was on the sidelines for probably a quarter of the second half.

The D was tanked.

The D continued to play press, which is how they got the 97 yarder.

Don't you understand, no lead is enough when you offense does a 3 and out every time.
They were not playing soft or you were not watching the game.... even the freaking announcers were saying it. I guess it was big conspiracy, me and the announcers got together a big plan to say LSU was playing press coverage.... then we actually edited the video to show a 97 yard bomb... it really didn't happen.

Chavis is a good DC, but his giant huge failing is that he backs off into the prevent way too early. During the game, he'll do this on third and long way too often rather than playing it straight up, leading him to give up so many 3rd and longs that UT fans started calling it "3rd and Chavis." At the end of the game, he does it for entire drives. Chavis played the last drive tonight exactly like TN fans knew he would -- he brought three guys and dropped eight all the way down the field, letting UNC dink and dunk their way into the red zone, and then once they were down there he just blizted his ass off. You were one decent pass away from it costing you the game. Chavis's defenses are always statistically good, and they are satisfyingly aggressive, but he is about the worst DC in the country when you need your defense to win you a football game with two minutes left.

Remember, no lead is ever safe in the fourth quarter with the the Red Man in the booth.
