ok now I am on a computer so I can type what I do in a little more depth...
On average, in a month I will spend around $600 in the grocery store.
I buy a $500 Visa giftcard at the start of the month. (There is a $5 charge for this) I can use the giftcard other places as well. Sometimes I buy 2 of them since I can spend them in other places that Visa is accepted.
This particular month I had a rental property that needed a window A/C unit. I needed around an 8,500 BTU unit which cost around $240. So I bought $225 in Visa giftcards. This gave me an extra 1,000 points.
So at Kroger over the coarse of a month I only spent $750 in order to get the 2,000 points. The money that I spent was already money I was going to spend. It isn't like I was going out of my way trying to spend money to save.
This post was also posted on my facebook wall after I posted the picture and I found it pretty informative.
" But you can buy Shell gift cards and get the 4x bonus. And who is a rewards partner with Kroger ... Shell. You can use your Kroger points to get a discount at a Shell station, then pay using your Shell gift card you purchased. It's basically a 14% rebate on gas at the current prices. $100 gift card = 400 Kroger points = $0.40/gallon rebate x 35 gallon max = $13.80 savings on $100"
Also, my wife and I are about to buy a new T.V. from Best Buy. The T.V. cost around $950 that we are going to buy. So I will buy the gift cards from Kroger before going and buying the T.V. This will give me an additional 3800 points that I can do. So I will get to fill up my car once for $2 off and again for $1.80 off (by the time I get to this I will probably have the other .20)
