If you're going to take money from academics and place it in the hands of the Athletic Department as an investment, that's fair. But it had better pay off. I think he's on the line more than anyone else if Butch Jones doesn't right the ship.

when was money taken from academics and given to the AD?

Well technically the money was supposed to be given to the acedemic side from the atheletic side. Booger eating Chancellor Cheek agreed to let the AD keep that money for the next three years.

no money actually changed hands. It was AD money to begin with

Which is our accounting trick to keep the AD separate. This is an investment to generate revenue for the University. I'm just saying it has to pay off so that the AD is "gifting" again.

i don't post much here... but this is one of the most uninformed posts I have ever read here! From an academic side - I think alot of folks are happy with Cheek... and that is the only side that counts with respect to his job security.

Incorrect. He's pissing away money into some goofy programs and making some seriously head-scratching decisions on raises for administrators while increasing tuition around the board.

I only get mad at the people wanting him fired for thinking his job security depends solely on football. These are the people that think the University exists only for sports.

I'm not saying they aren't. I'm saying continuity is what matters here and 3 years down the line he's going to be up first before anyone else. This is worst case scenario stuff, not the likely outcome.

Take your knowledge and leave this thread immediately. We want to cry about some meaningless nonsense.

not sure about the "goofy programs"... but the majority of folks that I have contact with (and i readily admit... as a percentage of all faculty and staff, that is a small number) are happy to indifferent.

Goofy programs meaning he's got a plan with a relatively good intent (I suppose) to make UT a top-25 school- the way he's going about it and where he's putting money is weird (like a new UC when the old one was just renovated a few years ago; it needs to be replaced, but some other things need working on first).

Back when the new budget was released earlier in the year there was a lot of student frustration about Cheek signing off on bigger raises for himself and some administrators while cutting some faculty positions and increasing tuition.

This. He's gambling with a lot of this stuff. If it pans out, you've got to give him credit. If it doesn't, then he should be held accountable. Nothing unfair about it, if he succeeds then none of this matters.

There are just some things posted here that are just truly NUTS
If the Chancellor leaves(is terminated) it will be because of the overall Health of the University which does include Athletics because of the revenue generation

The health does include in a small part by student's opinions because of recruitment and number of students because that translates to revenue generation

His position requires directly supervising Department heads due to enrollment and publications because that is the reputation of the school which translates into Revenue

Are you seeing a pattern here? It's all about money property and prestige of the University

Horne Dawg Jimmy da Booger Eating Butt Cheek must be terminated long before we can tell whether Butch Jones can coach. Jimmy needs to go in 2013!

Jimmy thinks that being a top-25 academic school is more important than a top-25 football team. We should have a little VN poll on that topic.

Hart can stay if he will quit letting Jim Chaney cut his hair.

I agree we should have a little poll on that topic.
The results will prove something... although probably not what you're thinking.

Do it! I will be interested to see those results.

Since you are on the academic side, you have to set up the poll.

I'm on the football side, so I am still trying to figure out what the big glowing thing is above my keyboard.

Someone above stated that this op is the most uniformed they have ever read and I agree. The school is not giving the AD money just the reverse. Schools like Alabama have built a reserve to the tune of 100 million because they are keeping the AD money in the AD department. Somehwere down the line UT made a brilliant choice to give the school a yearly stipend that cut our reserve to under 2 million. Cheeks is not giving a damn cent to the AD the AD is just not honoring the money it set aside for the school for the next three years.

I want him gone cause he is sticking his nose in where it dont belong, in athletics, and making it harder for on the fence football players to get in, thus taking away quality athletes from the programs, and the fact that tennessee is only one of the few where the AD gives money to the university.
