Its interesting to me so many people are impressed by the science of the show. I'm in that industry, and usually Hollywood botches it on a hilarious scale.

I'll give it a shot the next time I'm cooped up inside for a couple days.

I'd imagine being a documentary of sorts, they'd have to get the science right.

It’s sounds like they’ve done pretty well, really.

A lot of the issues come more from people not understanding that situation, and comparing it to things around them, if that makes sense.

I admittedly have not watched, but I encourage you to check out:
UNSCEAR assessments of the Chernobyl accident

If you want facts on the health impacts from the accident. Recognize that HBO is in the entertainment industry, not the facts industry.

I didn't watch after a trailer had some line that this was the greatest tragedy in human history or some exaggeration. 30 workers died. 15 people died later of thyroid cancer. The rest is speculative. 171,000 people died from 1 dam accident.

Potential spoilers below......That's not how the show has portrayed it so far.

That part in the trailer may have been a nuclear engineer trying to get the govt to understand the importance and potential impact of the event. Much of the first episode and part of the second was about the govt decision makers who were expected to manage the incident actually did not understand what was really happening.

They haven't portrayed it as a giant killer. It's been mostly about preventing things from being worse. There's only been a handful of deaths so far. A few of the Chernobyl employees and a couple of the firefighters that first responded.

The quarantined guys in the hospital was a shocking visual. Had to be an even worse death than 100% third degree burns because you are burned from the inside out and your cells are committing mass suicide.

Last episode was rough..I also have to say this, I have no words to express my admiration of the Soviet people..I use Soviet because I know they are all mostly Slavic, but not all Russian...but the Soviet government, the communist apparatchik system they had was just...wow..I don't even know a word to describe the pure monumental stupidity from top to bottom..😖 The world is lucky those stupid fools didn't kill us all somewhere along the line, and no I'm not talking about just this incident.

I hope I never live to see the day we give over all our rights to a government like that..I would rather die first.

Precisely why I'm so surprised that HBO did this series...with all the "liberal" infatuation with Socialism these days.

I know this isn't the Politics forum, so I'll leave that be.

That guy that shot the cow evoked King Joffrey hate in me. He needs to bleed out of his face!

I think you might have misinterpreted that whole situation. Those guys had standing orders to evacuate all the people in the exclusion zone and to terminate all animal life that they find. If you personally fail at either order you literally risk getting shot by the government. The cow was dead whether he did it in front of her or after she left. What would have been truly horrible is when he shot the cow it fell on top of the woman and crushed her rather than the other direction.

because its only a TV show, I would have laughed at the last part. I wouldn't if it was real though.

Makes sense in that Russia is the enemy and this show is showing how stupid they are. Reminded me of the superman propaganda

I'm betting that there were people that were shot and we won't hear about that.
I think the show has already shown numbers of soon to be dead that far exceed what were reported. 400 miners? Dead. All those soldiers? Dead. I believe they only said a few hundred died initially. I would assume its in the upper thousands if you count all the most likely cancer related deaths.
