Looks like “Orca” is the name of the Boeing program. So I’m keeping Orca as the name of my Pacific predator class!

Here is our first look at the US Navy's Orca XLUUV - Naval News

And would you look at that… go figure, a diesel-electric lithium ion power plant. Just like the Taigei I want.
The vessel will be powered by a hybrid diesel/lithium-ion battery system, which powers the Orca by battery while submerged and recharges the batteries with diesel generators while surfaced

On a ridiculous note, the GAO came out with a revised cost estimate per unit - $621M

The Taigei class is only $700M, and can lay mines too. And fire torpedoes, and Harpoons, and is 4x faster…

I read the Germans use a fuel cell, which is even quieter and apparently submerged for 2 months

As a proud American that bleeds Navy blue, I’ll probably be labeled a heretic here….

But I’m going to keep preaching the “high end - low end” strategy. Especially with regards to countering China in the Pacific.

We need to get into Diesel-Electrics. And we don’t need to spend $B’s researching and developing our own.

The Japanese Taigei class is bad ass. A silent killer that can lay in wait submerged for 3 weeks at a time on lithium-ion’s.
6 torpedo tubes, and it can fire the Harpoon Block II. All the sensors, and it’s fast too.

The Virginia Block V is pushing $4B.
The Taigei is about $700M per boat.

Reduce the Virginia class from 66 to 63, and field an 18 boat Taigei class (we can call them the “Orca” class?). Send them all to the Eastern Pacific.

It would enhance cooperation with Japan.
It would provide an asymmetric threat to China.
And it would put boats in greater numbers in the water.

The dems are probably going to be pushing solar/electric subs ... unless they can plan some sea based electrical outlets and long extension cords.

I thought our allies were putting an end to this crap. Personally, I hope the US pilot that Australia has locked up rots in jail. All pilots from NATO countries know too much to be working with the Chinese military. The Chinese undoubtedly know a lot about our planes, technology, weaponry, and tactics; however, there's a big difference between reading and being shown the ropes. Simple example - read up on how to ride a bicycle and try it without supervision by someone who knows how. Maybe this is just a continuation of the German and French willingness to sell harmful stuff to anybody with cash; but when this guy teaches a Chinese pilot how to deal with a Eurofighter or other NATO airplane, he's knowingly putting all his "buddies" at risk. That's treasonable.

CIA director was in China
Just makes you wonder if the safety of some 3 Billion people is all a big game being played...

PLA could have captured the Director of The CIA and didn't haha.

At least he was the Director ... appointed position rather than somebody actually working for the CIA. Likely more mouth than brain and fact. He was stashed away in the State Dept for years ... not exactly a hotbed of talent and useful knowledge by any means.
