Not quiet, but yeah I wouldn't get too much into it.
Which was my point. They are an unwilling part of China.They protested hard in 2014 but could not maintain. 76 days were not enough. Their Democratic right to vote for the leader of Hong Kong was a critical point in the process, and they ended up losing. I thought they pleaded their case well and strong support was shown but without guns the Chinese just waited them out. Now they will be taking dissidents to Beijing for trial, bypassing the HK court system. That will make it even more difficult to disagree with the Chinese government. Piece by piece they are becoming just another Chinese city, which is their greatest fear.

You don't see a lot of demonstrations over gridlock.
This government system was designed around compromise. What happens to it when Republicans are all over the map and Democrats vote in singularity supported by a biased media with zero compromise for a long period of time? The long term politicians have their fingers on the scales and don't intend to change anytime soon. Eventually they will have to be dealt with and more sooner than later.
