China Thread

Biden appears to be totally clueless too and that is the scary thing. It is administrations like the one he was under and several before him that landed us in the position we are in. One has to wonder if a Ronald Reagan of sound mind could've predicted this and fought to keep our dependence low.

Reagan was the original person who believed that economic growth would change China’s behavior so let’s wonder what he would have predicted.

China is just pissing off the world at this point. They are in a form of a Cold War with Australia and finding themselves in an actual conflict with India.

I will take your would for it unless I find something that contradicts it. China began to grow in the 1990's.

It's part of their strategy to slowly push their borders.

They have done it in the past. See Tibet and western china. See Hong Kong. You can also look at what russia has done in Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldavia (I think that's right)

They are too small of moves to get the world involved. But in the mean time it allows the aggressor to complete it goals and gain access to strategic areas it shouldnt have access to.

Building islands in the sea and claiming the whole area as China’s property or under their one China policy .

At some point, China will have their eyes on Australia and Japan. That’s when things will pop off in the Asian Theater. Those drums are beginning...albeit slowly.

US has mutual defense pacts with Japan, South Korea and NZ/Australia. We'd have to go to the defense of any of them if they're attacked or we'd lose whatever credibility we have with our allies in NATO and the Western Hemisphere, not to mention it would almost certainly weaken the dollar. India is on an island. They have no mutual defense treaties. They're closest ally is probably Russia but Putin is not going to war with China over relations with India.

On a completely off the wall note, but somewhat related, this would be the perfect time for Trump to order the invasion of North Korea. Nobody would see it coming and there is a good enough argument that he doesn't need congressional approval since we're still a state of hostilities of some sort that he could get it done deal with them later.

China gonna do what they want, no one is willing to go to the mat with them. India may try, but, what can they do long term to win.......short of nuclear war China will continue on with little real blow back.

Reagan described the opening of China’s economy to the world as “the first taste of freedom for over 1 billion people.”

In the minority, but I thought he should’ve invaded in 2017 in the late summer/early fall when it was getting extremely tense. However, it is a good thing things were able to calm down between Trump and Kim.

I do think Kim is no longer in charge and that his sister is.

It would mean war but I think if we could peel back the curtain we would find they are almost broke and the central committee wants war to unify their people against someone other than them.
Yep. If they’re actually trying to provoke an open war then the only reason it makes sense is they are crumbling from within. Regardless nobody should want to actually go to war with them they are THE peer adversary currently. More so than Russia.
