Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

Question to the "shoot it down" folks: How much would it cost?

If China was as diabolical as you guys think, they should send about five or ten $2000 balloons each week to get us to scramble jets and fire off multi-million dollar missiles.

We certainly do need to fast-track a weapon system that can cheaply destroy drone swarms. We can't allow China to send spy equipment over us at will.

The bold states your ignorance with the Chinese.

Who knows. How much value does the intelligence they are gathering have?

Meh... from what I've seen thus far, I don't think the "intelligence" here in the US is of any concern to them.

Have you been to an engineering school in the past 30-40 years? Chinese, Indians, Arabs and others populate those places... not native-born Americans. Once we used up all of our Nazi scientists after WWII by the mid-1970s, the US hasn't really been innovating jack that is a threat to Russia or China... or Iran for that matter.

I assume if we felt the balloons were truly a threat to national security they would be shot down and we probably wouldn't even hear about it. If they're letting them ride they are likely observing them to find out whatever they can about their capabilities and purpose

Wrong. The Obiden admin is in bed with the Chinese.

I'm trying to look at this without conspiracy tinted glasses, but you are free to frustrate yourself over them to your heart's content.
It was said that the balloon that made it to the Atlantic collected all sorts of sensitive material and was transmitting the data back to China. I’d hope you are right and that we let it perform its task out of observation and not incompetence.

Can you reveal the sources who said sensitive info was transmitted back to China?

Were you keeping up with what was going on during that year?

This was widely known and reported but clearly this administration wasn't going to be transparent. They weren't the entire time.
Yes, but not through right wing sources.

You're pulling for Trump and worried about transparency? Damn, you don't even try to address your lack of self awareness

We are talking about potential espionage. Does that not raise your temperature? Do you think China just had a helium balloon that monitored the weather take flight over the entire continental US? To most observers it was another sign of sheer incompetence.

Potential espionage is a perpetual state we face as the superpower country. No, I don't allow it to affect my blood pressure. It's been a constant since WWII. Social media has been a catalyst for massive overreaction. It was inevitable that some people need to voice their hyper reactionary opinions if it.

So, in your opinion, the presence of an unmanned balloon floating over our country poses no significant risk in increasing intelligence gathering by hostile governments. It is a 'hyper reaction' to be concerned about that. Fascinating.
