Spy satellites with equivalent camera resolution are in low orbits travelling 17,500 mph and only pass overhead for short durations. A balloon can hover on station continuously for hours or even days if winds are cooperative

That's what the admin is saying. Apparently the safety for things on the ground supersedes the security concern. Also, apparently this isn't the first time. Had them over Hawaii and Guam not too long ago

Now you have me thinking. The administration is trying to pass it off as being a threat from debris for not shooting it down. Considering this thing is hovering over rural Montana, I doubt that is actually much of a threat. I'm wondering if there is some kind of weapon on it.

1) We have satellite coverage at all times, we not only had to notice it but watch it's entire flight.
2) It is interesting that media is pushing it, maybe because it's being seen and talked about already? Or is it a distraction? But clearly it's a message meant to be consumed.
