Chinese spy balloon hovering over Montana

Several countries have "used" nuclear weapons - it's done all the time, but to satisfy you, we are the only ones to detonate one over an enemy. Tokyo fire bombing raids were more extensive, but single bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki forced the Japanese to admit they were out of their depth and capitulate.
I am reminded of a passage about when Rome captured Carthage, ‘it was razed to the ground, the men and many women and children put to death and the ground was salted to prevent anything from growing there. While more labor intensive, the end result was the same as if the Romans had dropped a thermonuclear bomb on the city.’

They are using the f-22 for the advanced targeting systems. These are not easy shots.

They are sending up f-35's to get a good look at it first for the stealth.

I was thinking back to the story about three balloons over the US during the Trump presidency and remembering a bunch of high altitude balloons on Flight Tracker 24. The ones I remembered were were over both the US and other countries from time to time at 65,000 ft. They were know as Loon balloons and were a Google project to see if they were feasible for providing internet service. Makes you wonder if those are the ones that "were ignored" while Trump was around.

Loon Ballons? Bunch of liberals on board?

2 options:

1. This is a genuine increase in flying objects that has never been seen before
2. These objects have always been around and at or near the same quantity, but it is politically convenient now to start to make a fuss over them in the past week... get everyone in a panic and generate fear.
Scenario 3:

We followed and hacked the big balloon last week. It allowed us to see where other Chinese unmanned devices were operating as communications areas. We don’t want to say they’re Chinese yet, bc a good case for war could be made, but we’re not in a good position to win a conventional war w/ China.

I understand the sentiment, but it might be more like the equivalent of the Zulus fighting the current 1st Cavalry Division…and we’re the Zulus.

Correct. We don’t need to attack the aliens. If they’ve mastered galactic travel then they probably have pretty decent weapon tech too.

That movie with darn it what's his name..British.. Micheal? was good. Them Zulus got mowed down.

Michael Caine. 1964 movie called Zulu. The zulus got mowed down but they won. The peon horde attack is a real thing if you’re willing to stomach the losses.

Zulu (1964 film) - Wikipedia

I know the name of the. movie and watched it several times.
I thought the Zulus came over the ridge en mass and saluted them and then retreated.

Why? You said it was a big nothing burger. I think you said #10000 on your list of worries. If that were the case why go to the trouble?
That comment was in reference to the balloons or objects that has everyone getting worked up right now. It was not in reference to the very real threat of nuclear annihilation. The threat of nuclear annihilation is near the top of the list.

You know that is exactly what I am referring to. I'm not referencing nuclear tests and what not.

Yeah, that is certainly the feeling they want to create. We need to people in a panic.
The war between us and Russia with the Ukrainian people in the middle must not be generating enough revenue for the General Dynamics corporations of the world. It's time to ratchet up their income and tax breaks.

What difference would it be if it is a balloon vs a satellite? Or a U-2-like spy plane?

If flying spy balloons across the United States is #10000 on our list of worries why wouldn't it be #10000 on Russia's list of worries?

The original movie was about an engagement that the Brit’s won. But overall all they got over ran and massacred in other engagements. I believe the wiki link references the other battles.

Waterloo was good as well

The film is most famous for its lavish battle scenes,[7] shot on-location in Uzhhorod, Ukraine.[8] The impact of the 15,000 authentically dressed extras, recreating the battle sections with true numbers and without special effects, is unsurpassed, and remains the highest number of costumed extras in any film.[9]

Maybe I should have been more blunt. We and several other countries have used nuclear weapons as a threat for years. Putin most recently used them as a more overt threat. Nuclear weapons were almost the entire basis for the Cold War - it's not the use; it's the threat that they could be used, and it's basically a threat 24/7/365.
