Chris Benoit and his family found dead

The odd thing is how defensive WWE immediately became. Yes, some of the news outlets are jumping to "roid rage" conclusions, but from a PR standpoint it makes the WWE look exceptionally slimy to take this tact rather than just say "we're sorry. We'll wait to see what the investigation reveals."

They've got to realize that the public sees them baiscally as ruthless carnival barkers and the best thing they can do is just shut up.

This morning, I saw probably less than 5 minutes of a Vince McMahon interview on the Today Show. All he was doing was denying that there was any wrong doing on behalf of the WWE. Then he was trying to promote that there was a self-help system in place for these entertainers. That's only within the couple minutes that I had seen, anyways.

I am amazed that the WWE defends the airing of the tribute show by saying they didn't know the facts.

But they are absolutely certain that steroids had nothing to do with this situation. So they go from not knowing anything to knowing everything.

No matter what happened, I think they did the right thing with the tribute show. They had to give some type of positive reinforcement for Benoit's life and that he was a family man. It is a disgusting act but we don't know who he was personally so why try to get into it. If he did it it's a disgusting thing to do and the WWE should face a probe by investigators for the use of steriods if they played a role.

I clearly don't understand your thoughts in bold. How was a tribute show the right thing? In hindsight it was definitely not the right thing and I contend it was wrong even when they supposedly did not know the details. Also, why did they have to give some positive reinforcement on his life?

It was clearly a major league screwup by WWE to hold a tribute show less than 24 hours after the deaths given how suspicious they were. By the time the show went to air, people already had an idea that it was a murder suicide.

What can you really expect from a carnival barker like McMahon though? He's a great businessman, but nobody ever accused him of having a lot of tact or class.

What seems strange to me is the WWE's attacks on the theories that steroids could have played a part in this mayhem.

By aggressively attempting to disprove the notion that steroids could have played a role, the WWE looks like a company that is defending illegal steroid use, and a company that's in denial about the hazards of using steroids.

They'd have been better to keep their mouths shut...instead, they proved that they weren't suprised at his steroid use, and weren't bothered by his steroid use.

I agree with you. It was already known that he had missed the pay per view show to go home for "personal reasons" and then he and his family end up dead. It doesn't take much to figure out that he may have been the cause of it.

I'm sure that his close friends that were on that tribute were heartbroken about his death. You could tell that they were sincere about it in their interviews, but I wonder how they feel about it now? If it had been me, I would feel like a fool for getting on television and putting someone on a pedestal that killed his wife and kid.

If they wanted to cancel the show, fine. That is understandable, but they should have waited and gotten all of the details before having that tribute.

Just as soon as steroids were brought up, WWE didn't waste time saying that there was no way that steroids could be involved. To me, it makes them look even worse trying to deny something so fast when the results from the toxicology tests aren't even back yet. Once gain, they jumped the gun.

They said that he was tested in April, well that was 2 months ago! Most of these guys inject them into their body right before they go work out for an upcoming show.

I don't know if any of you have heard about this yet, but someone posted something about Nancy Benoit's death on Wikipedia more than 13 hours before police discovered their bodies.

this is a link to the edit in question
Chris Benoit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IP address of the computer used to make the edit was from Stamford, Connecticut, the home of the WWE. The story is on FoxNews.com which isn't wanting to load for me right now or I would link it.

I imagine personally knowing him, they never imagined that this was a murder/suicide. This probably was the reason they aired the tribute. In hindsight, I'm sure they regret it.

Fox website reports Nancy Benoit's death was reported on Wikipedia 13 hours before cops found their bodies. Talk about a story getting really weird.

There you have it. No one can doubt Wikipedia anymore. It is all-knowing.

Busy at work. So could not read the story thoroughly. But it also said the wiki posting was made from a computer in Stamford, CT. The home of the WWE. Ah, really strange.

Haven't been able to get on here for about a week between work and the internet screwing up at home. I stoped watching the WWE for about 3 years now but my 10 yr son watches it with a passion. Benoit was always one of my favs when I watched. This story just really blows me away with all the odd twists and the way some facts are coming out now. I'm not sure on my opinion on the tribute show but now that the wiki story has come out and it was tracked from a computer in the same town as the WWE's base it's getting really interesting and odd. Did the WWE know ALOT more than they are saying? With the whole fake Vince death and now the tribute show honoring Chris this literaly could be the end of the WWE as we know it. My thoughts are with Chris's family and close friends.

Whatever came of Elizabeth's murder last year? I remember at one point Lex Lugar was a suspect but that's all I remember.
