Chris Jones now wants out of his LOI

CM should be able to deal with the egos of recruits, it's a reality of recruiting. In all honesty, with the recruiting budget of UT and its resources, a trip to the recruits (Ware and Jones) and phone calls to them, should have been priority number one. If he was interested in them (which he may not be), don't know why he would make them wait a week. There may be some NCAA rule that may prevent contact during this time. If not single phone call after the hiring gives me reason for concern.

That's what it sounds like. The man is busy, just started a new job so he's trying to put a staff together.

This is piss poor in my opinion. Not to rain on Martin but how many times do you think Coach Cal or Coach Pearl would have called. In all likelihood 3 or 4 times a day, every day.

This is no way to run a railroad and might be how it's done at Southwest Missouri academy of fine arts but not how anyone does it in big time athletics imo. Very, very disappointing. On top of that the kid had to initiate the calls 3 consecutive days.

All he wants is confirmation that he is wanted and these idiots cant even do that. Where is Hamilton -- back over seas?

If Chris Jones goes elsewhere, we will all live to regret it. Kid is 18 and can be changed. Right now he is a spoiled kid with elite talent. Martin needs to get his butt down there and recruit the spoiled kid. We can work on character issues once he's on campus. What's more important, a weekend at the Final 4, or the best offensive guard around?

Seems like recruiting should take priority over filling out a staff. You need players to win in the SEC. If Jones and Ware are that good make them your first priority if not tell them to hit the road and recruit other players. Recruiting should come first. Oh yea and Mike Hamilton should be fired.

[/B]First big mistake, lmfao!!! This charming young man has been in three different high schools during his senior season. CCM is trying to hire his staff, told him he would see him next week. Kid thinks he is more important to UT and the Coach than putting together a solid staff.

Both of these kids sound like trouble and the whinning is growing old. Release them both and move on. Coach Pearl brought in players with talent, but not a whole lot of character with a few high character kids sprinkled in . We shouldn't blame CCM if neither of these prima donnas wear orange, let him bring in his players. I'm not sure any of Pearl's players will be able to play the type of defense CCM will demand. After the run of guns, drugs and elite eights we went through with CBP I for one will embrace more accountability and structure out of our basketball program. CCM is exactly what the Doctor ordered as was CDD when he was hired.
GO VOLS!!!

If you don't think that this team needs a decent point guard then I'm lmfao. It would be like Dooley saying I didn't get around to calling Tyler Bray. He was a little whiny and high maintenance and actually expected me to make contact with him occasionally. Plus premier point guards and quarterbacks are growing on trees out here in West Knoxville.

If CM and MH aren't smart enough to understand that it all starts with recruiting then they are in huge trouble. Any smart coach would be calling these guys from the final four imo while they are looking for their next media director.

Well let's see - new job, angry/frustrated/uninformed fan base, accepting Coach of the Year Award, building new staff, Final Four trip (know I'd pass that up), recruiting for possible Hopson/Harris exodus and wondering about Ware staying in the fold, Jones being academically qualified - sounds about like one of my weeks - crap where's that priority list again.............

You do realize that Jones isn't qualified yet? Maybe ccm is looking at other options too. Why put all your eggs in the Jones basket when he may never make it to campus? Kid has shown to have some baggage.

Here it is:

1. Try to re-recruit Jones
2. Try to re-recruit Ware
3. Talk to Hopson
4. Talk to Harris
5. Send someone to pick up my coach of the year trophy.
6. Talk to Jones again
7. Talk to Ware again
8. Look for new media director at the Final 4 --- scratch that -- not enough time.
9. Try to re-recruit Jones
10. Try to re-recruit Ware
11. Try to hire an assistant that has time to call existing and potential new recruits
12. Talk to Jones again
13. Talk to Ware again
14. Talk to Hopson again
15. Talk to Harris again -- talk to Harris' dad
16. Etc.

All of you experts listen up! Take a pail of water, full up. Place your hand in the water and pull it out again. Take a look at the water. Can you tell if any water is missing? Noooo. That's how much these cry babies will be missed.

Have you considered the fact that CCM might have a few assistants that are in the Final Four as coaching candidates? Let the coach do his work.

Give Jones his release. Visit him and talk to him and try to re-recruit him. If he decides to recommit then welcome if not then wish him the best elsewhere. Move on from there.

I doubt that you'd pass that up. For CCM, attending the Final Four does not mean sitting in a box watching the games and shooting the crap with Matt Painter and other buddies. Instead, it is an opportunity to attend the NABC coaching convention and (most importantly) meet with other coaches interested in a spot on his staff. I would be surprised if at least one of the spots (not all of them) weren't filled by the time he returns from Houston.

Keeping Ware and Jones is important, but they will simply have to be a little patient. Getting a staff in to handle some of these (whiny-a$$ed) issues is also important, and some would say more critical for the long haul.

And I haven't even had my caffein yet this morning. It really shouldn't have ever reached this point. At least Kiffin was smart enough to say and visit the top prospect in the state (Which he didn't sign by the way) as soon as his plane landed in Knoxville. If CM isn't smart enough to understand that job one is visiting these two kids--- then MH as his boss should have pointed him in that direction.

It is a questionable hire in the first place and this just makes it look all the more questionable. I think we can all agree that bringing these gentlemen back into the fold should be job one whether you are a top tier or mid tier guy --- it should be common sense.

We have entirely too many folks that know how to do his job for him.

If you don't like the way he runs the program, apply for the job and see how well you do. I say give the man some time. If we lose the recruits, so be it. Enough with spoiling kids more than they already are.

I'm willing to give coach the same 3 years we're giving Dooley. Hopefully he can keep these 2 guys but if not, we'll just have to move on.

You know who's not spoiled? Skylar McBee. Kid needs more touches in 2011-2012 anyway. Let the bums go. Let's win with kids who love wearing the orange.

I'm sure hoping that the angst coming from these guys isn't because they lost contact with the "middlemen" that they were used to dealing with. (See Nate Miles @ U-Con)

Valid point -- butttttttt. Can't you at least make a call and say here is my plan - here is my schedule. I am going to go to the final 4 this week and will fly back and meet you and your family next week - let's say Tuesday. Here is my cell phone - call me if anything comes up between now and then. We are just as committed to having you as our point guard -if not more so than the previous staff. I will check back with you on Friday to see how you are doing with your classes and with your efforts to get qualified.

Just like Mr. Ware you are free to leave if you aren't happy with your previous decision but we would like for you to get to meet me and my staff and understand what our goals and plans are before you make a decision.

Seems too easy to me and would have likely avoided the article in the Commercial Appeal. Maybe CM and co. haven't mastered texting.
