Chris Jones now wants out of his LOI

I dot care what anyone says, Chris Jones was our top recruit and you go see him immediately if you want him to stick around here. Which now thats obviously too late due to the dead period, but Martin had his chance. You dont put off something important recruiting, especially when it comes to a recruit like Chris Jones. Nice move, you managed to piss off the best recruit we had your first week on the job. That doesn't look good.

Or, maybe he's not the top recruit to Martin. He's a serious academic risk and, perhaps, not the type of guy Martin wants in the program. Who knows? I know that fans who simply read the newspaper don't have a clue as to what's going on.

Having a mediocre basketball program > Having no basketball program > Having to attend Memphis High events

you mean event like watching the Memphis High Tigers come out of the tunnel and run on to a court that says Final 4 on the center circle??? Those kind of events?

Regardless of his academic issues, there is something majorly wrong if Jones is not the top recruit on his list. The guy was already committed to Tennessee for crying out loud, he was necessity in my eyes.

My question is .... would a coach want a kid around that said the coach never even spoke to him after the coach said he spoke to him and by what was told wanted to remain with UT. Someone is not telling the truth here.

Just any event. I wasn't alive to see them in the final 4, I'm only 20.

But it wouldn't matter if I was rooting for them as they hoisted the national championship trophy; I would still have to cope with the fact I was associating myself with Memphis. Which, is worse than not having a program at all. 104-84.

Why? What do you know that the rest of us don't? New coaching transitions are always a little messy and this kid being priority #1 may not be in the plans for Martin. Maybe Jones isn't nearly as important as you think, maybe yes. I'm not going to stress or pretend I know what Martin should do because I read a newspaper article about one recruit. There are other guys out there, especially if Jones isn't going to qualify anyway.

but hey, you have your one elite 8 banner. Maybe next season, all 5000 people in attendance can get a free hot dog and their picture made w/ Kwanzo and "the banner"

At least our players don't have to have people take their tests for them....

Does anyone realize it's the "Dead Period" for basketball, started the 31st and ends the 7th at noon. Coaches are NOT ALLOWED to meet with prospects signed or unsigned. This is why CCM called the players on Monday to set up meetings after the "Final Four".

The 31st was Thursday. Could CM not have called him more than once between being hired on Monday or even went to Memphis to visit him before the 31st?
I understand CM has a lot of stuff going on rt now but I would think he could visit both prospects in a span of 12 hours or so if he wanted to lock em up instead of calling them once & making them wait another week.
Maybe he's just not as high on the kids for some reasons. Def a lot of strange things going on since Monday with signees, CM, & UTAD.

All im saying is he was out best recruit on board, and for you to act like he's not that important is ridiculous. You act like we're completely set at PG when we're obviously not. Im not trying to act like I know whats best for Tennessee basketball, im not the coach, but I do think its a bad move on Martin's part to act like he's in no hurry to lock up players that were already previously locked up. Especially with the talent that Jones has.

If this is the case then I understand. But shouldn't Martin have made it clear to the recruits that he is not legally able to communicate with them?

Is it possible that Cuonzo told him this and he didn't listen/understand? I mean the kid has serious academic issues. If he can't get a passing grade in high school, do you really think he has the mental capacity to understand that its a dead period? Also, have you thought that he is use to Pearl breaking these rules to talk to him, and that he doesn't understand why Cuonzo doesn't think he is that important since Cuonzo want bend the rules a bit to talk to him? It could be seen as a very good sign that Cuonzo is following the rules...

ooooh. I wouldn't say things like that. Last year I would have said, "At least our coach doesn't willfully break recruiting rules," and "At least our coach wouldn't lie to the NCAA over a minor infraction." Learned my lesson.

My take...Jones and Ware have their panties all twisted in a knot because they feel like they have had the rug pulled out from under them. In their case they need some reassurance they are making the proper choice. Are they getting this reassurance, not really, these are teenagers and most teenagers can't see much farther than the end of their noses. Will they get the reassurance that they need, of course. CCM will be able to set before these two guys his plans and hopefully his staff that will be with them for the next four years. Everyone including these two recruits need to relax and let this little drama play out. A month from now, no one will ever remember this incident.

Edrick Loften has a better chance of getting into school next year than Chris Jones.

I agree, Chris has so many academic issues. He could not finish at Melrose which from what I heard is an easy intercity school in Memphis. This kid and his Coach Johnson are full of themselves. Chris is good but he has way to many ?'s off the court.

Seriously? Calipari's gone. Why are you so cocky? Pastner has proved nothing. My sister who knows squat about basketball could recruit Memphis. If Memphis doesn't win the pathetic CUSA every year, you should be very disappointed. At any rate, we beat you by 30...what?

Once Jones knows the rules and realizes this is the dead period, Then he will feel like an idiot.

What do you expect him to do?

It's the dead period and he said he was going to meet with him after the final four.

Jesus.

Get him in the fold...then introduce him to TB Arena. Have him run steps....after a few trips up and down, Martin should ask him if he still wants to talk.

I'm just confused how he's moved from a metro HS, to two prep schools, and back to the metro HS...wtf is going on?

Congrats on your final four from 1972.

With the way you're on a rival site acting like a tool, that would have made you -30 years old at the time?

Way to be proud of something you weren't alive for.

I just became a UCLA fan at this very moment, how do you like me now? My teams 11 championships trumps your teams 0 championships. I wasn't alive for most or even a fan at the time but I'm a fan now. The Wooden days are my favorite. The book painted a nice picture, it's like I was actually there. Good enough.
