Chris Jones now wants out of his LOI

Bye bye Jones...I'd rather not have a Memphis kid on the team anyway. Seems like they all have the same crappy attitude and sense of entitlement. Cuonzo, leave Memphis to Memphis and work Georgia instead.

Yea. JP Prince didn't really do anything at UT. Such a bad attitude and low character player.

Don't agree in the least. Get ballplayers. There is ample competent staff out there ad it moves around regularly.

That's fine, just different opinions. I am speaking about the 2 players under LOI, no need to run to them first week. If CCM wants to spend his time getting involved with some other recruits, that's different and I am all for it. However, Jones is a player that very well may not be eligible anyway so I don't see why CCM should cater to him and Ware. They can wait a week imo

I agree that getting players is of the most importance.

With this situation though, I don't have an issue with Martin. He told Jones he wanted to meet next week. If the kid had an issue with that, then he should have told Martin then instead of waiting to the dead period and then rambling it off to the UofM beat writer. As I said before, this is more about his HS coach, who is about as much of a Pearl puppet as Griff was/is.

It would appear that Chris Jones is not the type of player that CCM would be interested in recruiting regardless. I think we can all tell from the outside looking in that Jones is a great player, but has some character issues such as problems with his grades, coaches etc..

I love Chris' game and would love to see him as a Vol next years but "come on Man.." Dead period means he can't come are you. Coach Martin will come see you first thing when it is legal. He just got this job and not going to put UT in recruiting trouble again. You are his top priority and he will treat you as so. Stop whining and listening to your dumb ass high school coach who is using you to put his own name in the media. NO MO DRAMA, please..........

If I'm Martin, I make it a priority to keep my two signees. And if necessary I fly to Memphis right away to meet with Jones. You can always talk to coaches by phone while tripping to Memphis. I damn well wouldn't be casual about the signees. That's stupid. :hi:

I don't. I get my staff together so i can answer all the questions and there is little to no uncertainty. It's a week. Not months. Not a season. A week. And if jones isn't willing to wait a bloody week then why should we be willing to pay him(scholarship) to come to UT? He needs to wake up and get over himself before he wrecks himself.

Because his timeline to lock down a spot at this point is very, very short. Foregoing a week because 2 days wasn't enough time for our coach obviously doesnt appeal to him.

The recruiting process has always been about the love. A great coach, hired on the 28th would have stopped in knoxville, told the pilot to keep her running, shake a few hands, get back on the piper cherokee, just a guess, and make sure these recruits are overwhelmed at such a gesture.

Martin knows what he did wrong, now, but that's called "the school of hard knocks." All the lessons we learn after the fact. Now the question is, can he graduate?

I guess this means that Martin isn't concerned with recruiting players that he will have to babysit. Jones is good, but not elite and Martin knows that.

You "babysit" them all, most for a number of years. Those two players represented an incredible amount of time already invested.

Just be careful of that BBQ in the backyard.

The recruiting process has always been about the money. An alabubba coach, hired on the 28th would have stopped in tuscaloser, told the truck driver to keep her running, slapped butts, get back on the piper cherokee, just a guess, and make sure these recruits are overwhelmed at the amount of money they offered him.

Pretty sure those dates were during an evaluation period = no meeting with recruits off campus.

You can have "face to face" contact with recruits until the 31st.

Friday: Commercial appeal,
I'm was very disappointed," Jones said "If I'm his top recruit and everyone is depending on me, he didn't take out the time to come and see me, I just feel like, well, he put me on hold. So at this point I just want my release. He just made it easier on me."

Recruiting is it's own sport. Once you get them on campus then you can start coaching basketball.

I agree that you have to feed the kids' egos, but:

"Definition: An "Evaluation Period" is a block of the official NCAA recruiting calendar during which coaches and other authorized staffers are allowed to assess the athletic and academic ability of prospective student-athletes, but cannot conduct off-campus visits.
During the school year, in-person evaluations are limited to school-related events -- games, practices, tournaments and the like."

CJ doesn't play for the school. There's no legal reason Zo could have been there.

Contact period ended on March 22nd. The dates you listed are within the Evaluation Period which states that you cannot have in-person contact with a recruit off the university's campus.

Yep. This is getting old. Doesn't matter anyway now, we'll see after the 7th.

If this is true, he'll have no problem explaining and getting back on track.
