Chris Low is now reporting Bruce Pearl is out at Tennessee

And where will you be when we do? And what do you constitute a big name?

I'll still be supporting the Vols. But lets be real. There are 6 other DI programs looking for new coaches.

We will be relegated to looking for another mid-major coach and hope he can have the same success BP did.

That's ridiculous. Which of those jobs is better/potentially more lucrative?

you will be soundly disappointed when the Big fish don't bite when TN goes calling. We will NOT hire a big name coach.

with Hamilton's track record in hiring football coaches, why would anyone think he would hire a big name

he's proven himself incapable of that with his last 2 football hires

Name one that has the facilities that we do. Also, please name one that will also offer a comparable salary to what Pearl's contract was to pay him before his garbage...

Do you know how many D1 programs there are?

I am not so sure that the bball job isn't more attractive than the football job, considering the money, timing, etc.

True, but I don't get why they couldn't sit on the news until Monday. Somebody obviously forced somebodys hand.

I have to think it is easier to commit to firing him before possible gigantic tournament upsets. Does anyone honestly think this team could go all the way even without this news? Didn't think so... I bet Bruce has seen this coming for a while. That is just my own speculation.

Hiring football coaches and basketball coaches is completely different. The money generated by football is exponentially greater. This is a dumb point you're trying to make.

That what I don't get. People sell UT short. We have lots to offer. Hopefully the pending sanctions to come does not hurt our chances with coaches.

Plus, the conference is usually the 4th or 5th strongest league in basketball.

Which ones isn't better and more lucrative? What big name coach is going to want to leave an established program to come to TN and possibly face sanctions, loss of scholorships and a possible post season ban? Doesn't sound like TN is that appealing if you ask me .

And Hamilton didn't hire Dooley, beyond the technicalities.

UT isn't going to catch much of that. Regardless, Tennessee is a better job than pretty much any major conference job out there right now, and it isn't really debatable

FWIW Hamilton's official word is the job will be reviewed at the end of the season:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee athletics director Mike Hamilton says he does not know if Bruce Pearl will be the Volunteers' coach after this season ends.In an interview with WNML-AM in Knoxville that aired Wednesday, Hamilton said that he, the UT-Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy Cheek and school trustees will evaluate Pearl after the season ends. The ninth-seeded Vols play eighth-seeded Michigan on Friday in the NCAA tournament.
Pearl has been working without a contract since revealing in September that he mislead NCAA investigators during a probe into recruiting. The NCAA charged him with unethical conduct and other violations, though the NCAA has not released a final ruling on the matter.

NC St. nor Ga. Tech are better or more lucrative currently.

You're underestimating the almighty dollar.
