All I can say that if UT does not care enough about its basketball program to keep its coach from being lured away by ANOTHER SCHOOL IN THE STATE and in a MIDMAJOR conference, then our chance of hiring a coach who will make us competitive in the NCAA Tournament is remote at best. And from reading the post on Volnation and other places, I don't believe the Big Orange fans want to make the commitment to big time college basketball. The marketplace cost of BP is three mil. If we are not willing to pay it, we will get what we deserve. I'm for paying the man. But alas, it appears that too many here and in the Big Orange Nation will settle for Houston/O'Neil/Green/Buzz ball. We were lucky that Bruce turned out to be such a Pearl based on our previous hires (go cheap and hope strategy).

I am definitely a supporter of Bruce Pearl, but how in the hell could you justify paying Bruce a million dollars more than Roy Williams is paid?

So you really think that you'll get Roy Williams for 3M or that Tn would even offer a coach close to that after BP leaves? Some on this board and other places are in for a rude awakening if BP leaves. Another coach will cost UT $2.5M if he is even close to BP. His base pay is low on a SEC comparative basis. What is he 5th on a list of 12 in pay? Many don't appreciate what we have and could care less if he goes. That says loads about the UT and fan commitment to Basketball. Apparently many on here don't believe that Memphis knows basketball very well or they would not want to hire Bruce. I say they are making a strong commitment to their program, and we are not apparently willing to. Ut has ALWAYS went the cheap route and hire UP and COMING coaches. We finally found one after 15 years, and now we don't have the resolve to keep him. As many on here have said over and over, if he wants more mooney, let him go!

Pay Pearl what ever he needs. We cannot aford to take a chance on losing stephen. He was on the verge of a brakeout year. Im sure next season will be great

I don't think a considerable raise would go over well, considering the previous exorbitant raise Hamilton gave after a mediocre season.

Tennessee basketball is DEAD if Pearl leaves. And some of the fans here will be the reason. Tennessee went from a possible, if lucky NIT bid to a 4 year NCAA bid team. You people are bad **** crazy if you think we will be able to get any decent coach like Miller form Xavier for exxample, to come in to a division with Donovan and Calipari, and the track record of being a graveyard for coaches. If Pearl leaves, the last 4 years will be considered only due to his recruiting and Tennessee will fall back to the bottom of the SEC. There is no one out there right now that will come here who has the personality that it requires to talk kids inot coming to play bb in Knoxville.

And to say that Pearl doesn't deserve more money until he reaches a final four is ridiculous. Tell me which is harder to do in coaching, 1) take a team like Lousiville or UCLA or UCONN to the final four or 2) Make a midlevel SEC team to the sweet 16. I say it is #2.
I could got to coach UCONN and still get a top 10 recruiting class.
And please get your head out of your rears as far as this year goes. Did you really think a team that lost 4 guards, including their best 2 outside shooters and their best 2 defensive players was going to do well in the NCAA? Pearl said all year we were overated and we were.
So keep hating on Bruce Pearl, while cutting the throat of UT basketball. The rest of the country will regard UT as having the worst, most unrealistic fans in the country, and we will be stuck with some coach who finished 23 and 8 in the Mid Atlantic Junior college league last year. to an extent - he likes to have a good time. but bruce has been pretty good to his ex. from what i've heard, she was ready to end it just before he left uwm, but he persuaded her to stick it out 'til he got established here. bruce is not dumb and knew this would cost him more, but would be better for him (to a small degree - starting a new, high-profile job as a divorcee in the bible belt might not be the best pr), her, and the kids.

If one wanted to compare Pat's pay vs the revenue she brings in and Pearl's pay vs the revenue he brings in, Pearl should be making about $10 mil a year right now. She's absurdly disproportionately paid, and if we lost her, we would end up with more money for the Athletic dept. to spend on bball/foobaw.

That being said, we're not going to lose her, and if we have to pay our men's coach more, then so be it. It's about dollars...Pat should know that, she's been raping the Athletic dept. of its money for years.
