Well I dont think you can penalize a team because another team gets upset

They aren't penalized. They're still in the Sweet Sixteen. If they upset Kansas, they're still in the Elite Eight. I'm just not willing to sign off on Mooney as a coach entirely because he's in the Sweet Sixteen, especially after looking at who was in his path.

If I'm going to sign off on Mooney, it's because he went from 10-22 in the A-10 (I think I said CAA earlier. I mean A-10) his first two years to 26-6 his last two years; this week is a minor point by comparison.

I think you've turned this into something its not. No one said to hire Mooney because he's in the S16, the point is that he recruits well enough at Richmond to get there. The point was about his ability to recruit.

The advantage of getting a good floor coach is that its equivalent to having a McDAA, all other players are gravy. Pearl showed that he could recruit, and even game plan pretty well, but if the game plan was off they couldn't adjust.

My point was just that recruiting well enough to get to the Sweet Sixteen once is not a significant accomplishment. At Tennessee, he'll be going after a different group of players and competing with different schools. We don't know he can do this, although being young and being a good floor coach should certainly help. Hat made a Lickliter comparison (who, by the way, recruited well enough to make two Sweet Sixteens), but Mooney is 14 years younger at the time of the presumed first bigtime job. You'd hope that's translate into more recruiting energy, if nothing else. My only point is that recruiting well enough to succeed in the A-10 doesn't mean you recruit well enough to succeed in the SEC. It certainly doesn't mean you can't, and it certainly shouldn't eliminate him from contention. Nobody has a perfect resume.

I agree that getting a good floor coach would be an improvement. In-game adjustments were not Pearl's strength.

I am hoping for Lawrence Franks, but more realistically see Buzz Williams being here.
Franks will not be the long term solution but for the short, few years that he will be here, he can get some solid recruits and keep the program in good order. Once Franks leaves for the NBA again, we can bring in a college minded coach.

My thoughts exactly.

Huh. I never would've thought that about Marshall, but I don't know much about him beyond on the court results.

Mooney's team was 10-22 in conference his first two years and 26-6 his last two years. That doesn't seem like flash in the pan to me. Certainly more substantial than everybody's favorite flavor of the week. Hat does raise legitimate concerns about Mooney's recruiting, but that's an unknown, not a negative.

I agree. It seems to show that he's more successful with his own recruits and with his system firmly entrenched. I'd be all right with him.

I appreciate your opinion on this, but I sure hope neither of those guys is it. Buzz's defenses are porous.

It's shocking to me that some would rather have Mooney over Lawrence Frank. I simply don't understand that.

You don't understand Tennessee fans wanting some longevity? Frank would be a great hire imo if we could keep him for 10 years, but it just doesnt seem likely. We've eventually got to get off this coaching carousel to be taken seriously.

Princeton offense - do not want!

Georgetown is the only high-major that runs it, and their last 3 tournaments they've been ousted by mid-majors (Davidson, Ohio, and now VCU) who are more familiar with it and are better suited to defending it.

You don't think it has something to do with their coach?

It's a variation of the Princeton offense. Beilein at Michigan runs something similar.
