Makes sense.
This is anecdotal, but I've found that people who aren't as into sports usually get their tribalist urges out in some other area, and quite often in politics. Everybody, unless you are just some real loner, has a deep-seated need to feel connected to a group in some context, whether it is sports, politics, church, your work, or some other endeavor.

Although I know lots of sports fans who have strong political tribal allegiances as well, so who knows if there is a correlation. Some people are just very tribal people to begin with, so they probably need to feel attachment to their tribe via multiple things.

And it's even dumber to become attached to a "team" in the political realm than it is in sports, IMO.

That is inaccurate.

"Fox & Friends", with hosts Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade and Ainsley Earhardt from 6 am to 9 am, includes opinionated commentary, and it's mostly from a Republican perspective. The same is true of "Outnumbered" from noon to 1 pm, and "The Five" from 5 pm to 6 pm. Whenever a specific person is being criticized on one of those three shows, it's usually a democrat/liberal, who is in the crosshairs.

In the past, "The Five" has included one liberal panelist, usually either Bob Beckel or Juan Williams, but neither one is with the network anymore. The point/counterpoint format has mostly been fazed out by the producers and programming directors at Fox News.
Juan is still at Fox and they still have a liberal on the Five everyday.
