Cigar /Pipe Smoking thread

@BSAvol Your cigars seem like you gnaw one end of them off. We all do things to taste here so no right or wrong really - but why does it look like a dog chewed on your caps? or do you bite them off instead of a cutter? You do know that cigars arent pipes?

Yes, there are grammar nazis and cigar nazis 😁

Good question, I do use cutters. I suppose I smoke cigars more at the farm where I am likely on a mower, tractor or 4-wheeler where I need my hands free. Cigars get pretty beat up when I am finished. I probably just developed a habit (bad) of gripping the end with my teeth. I'm pretty unpolished, maybe a little doglike. I'm glad you asked, something I need to work on.

This morning’s dawn smoke is a Illusione Cruzado Classico Dantes, a blend of Nicaraguan criollo ‘98 and corojo’99 in a corojo rosado wrapper. Leather forward from lighting with espresso, wood, and pepper. Smooth for such a flavor profile with a little sweetness in the finish. Medium-full body.

These cigars came individually wrapped in gold colored foil in addition to the cellophane sleeve. Reported as a limited edition deliberately blended to be less full bodied than Illusione’s other offerings. The carefully aged tobaccos make for an enjoyable smoke. I’m pleased to have made a blind purchase of ten of these.

Change nothing. Continue enjoying your smoke like a man.

Today’s pre-dawn smoke is an A. J. Fernandez Viva La Vida, Nicaraguan criollo ‘98 filler, a corojo binder, and a habano wrapper. Strong pepper on lighting fills out with leather and wood, a noticeable nicotine punch, a full bodied earthy stogie. This is a cold weather cigar!

OK, for me, cigars were an after dinner indulgence to be enjoyed with brandy, whiskey, or another digestif. When I retired, they became a cocktail hour thing. Then, the heat of summer drove me to smoking one in the cool mornings after breakfast. Now, this has carried over into early winter. A barehanded smoke in butt freezing temperatures is a ritual for me this season. Next week, when morning temperatures drop into the 20s or even the teens, I’m likely to go back to enjoying a cigar during the warmest time of day, mid-afternoon. 😉

The best time to smoke a cigar is any time you feel it will bring you pleasure.

Nothing to change. Cigars are for however a man enjoys them. No pretentiousness intended, I was just curious and having a laugh.

For myself though, I hate it when I screw up the cap cut and end up with unraveling or bits in my teeth.

This morning at 10:00am ET it’s a seemingly balmy 41 degrees. My cigar of choice is the Record Bond Edition Limitada Mark 1.

The frigid air is coming. Temperatures have dropped since dawn. I’m on the porch while it’s still 40 degrees, smoking a BDL natural, a smooth, medium bodied cigar. My company is a large flock on boat tailed grackles. They’re worming the yards ahead of moving out with the front coming in.

No stogies lately; too cold, too many late nights and can’t commit to a proper smoke session. The usual bourbon or vodka/ Lacroix mixer. Picking back up on CS Lewis’s Mere Christianity. Started quite some time ago but just getting back to it.
The Screwtape Letters had a huge impact on my faith life. If you haven’t had the chance, I highly recommend it.

Thank you. I appreciate the recommendation and will check it out. How about you? Any smoke or drink preferences?
Definitely let me know if you end up reading it and your thoughts. As for a smoke, I used to be a heavy cigar guy, and I do still enjoy them (mostly Nubs), but now I usually choose my pipe over a cigar. As for drink, bourbon is my go to but here lately I’ve been on an Irish whiskey binge.

My next evolution is to start experimenting with pipes. Such a lovely aroma and I assume a wonderful taste as well.
