It was more than coaching. Something has happened in that locker room. You can't convince me otherwise

I will agree wholeheartedly. The one major thing I’ve enjoyed over the last 2 years is the culture seemed to change for the better. This team seemed to play hard for this coaching staff and the staff seemed to be in control of this team. Tonight there was no sign of that and it took me back to years past.

Something most definitely occurred to impact the effort and loyalty to the game and staff. Our football system didn’t change this fast…..but our playing for each other on this night did….you can’t make me believe otherwise. Hope it is repairable. GBO

Rumors are that Banks started a fight with Hooker. Milton ended it. Then they told Banks to stay at home.

So yeah, the offensive and the defensive leaders clashed. There had to be much more to it. But the effects were obvious.

I'm all for giving Heupel an extension/raise. Just think we should pay him to play defense too.

If there wasn't locker room strife before the game, there probably was afterward. A lot of players don't take too kindly to an embarrassing *ss whopping and the blame game commences. These type of losses is where you find out who your TRUE team leaders are...the ones that can help mend the sore feelings and keep the team focused on the future. We'll have to see how we respond against Vandy and in our bowl game to see how deep the wounds are.

When did the football fairy sprinkle winning defensive players on campus? Pruitt left very few. Everyone knew the defense would suck in ‘21 & most likely’22. Nothing changed but our expectations. Tonight was terrible & completely unacceptable but Tennessee players were beat consistently in 1 on 1 matchups by SC players all night. That ain’t just coaching.

I mean all of your points are valid but we still should have won that game, and okay sometimes you lose one you shouldn’t and that’s normal, but what we saw last night was historically bad performance. I mean literally it was pointed out that an unranked team had never upset a top 5 team that badly.

We have been worse off before as a program for sure (Dooley, Butch, Pruitt all got us to very low places pretty quickly) but an offense that is not one of the better ones in the SEC should not have beaten us 63-38 in a game where we were favored by 3 touchdowns.

I do think it’s important to give them some credit. Rattler had a heck of a night and their plan to get off to a fast start and make us react to them worked really well. That dude definitely has talent and throws some beautiful footballs. It was still not an acceptable showing from our guys .

For sure it’s not just coaches, but they ultimately are responsible for getting the players prepared and getting the best from them. Some guys last night were clearly not prepared and playing with the focus and effort we usually see. I’m not ready to blame the whole defense, but it wasn’t just the guy who didn’t make the trip, and it was more than one who did. We might not have enough talent to be as good as we expect to be in the long run, but we have enough that it shouldn’t look as bad as it did.

We have plenty of things to be happy about from this season, and should be proud of what they’ve done this year. As long as we fix whatever issues got us off track this week we will be fine and should be optimistic for the future. I don’t think the sky is falling.

The thing is though, if we mess up even half as badly as we did in that game even a few more times anytime in the next year or two and faith that we are on the right track will suffer. If we don’t handle Vanderbilt properly and let a bad thing to lead to more bad things the sky might very well be falling very soon. I’m not saying that we are for sure doomed if we do, but we will be well on our way. We’ve seen how bad that can get and how quickly once the trust is lost.

This rumor makes zero sense to me. Not saying it’s true or untrue because I don’t know what happened, but it certainly seemed as something did happen based on the performance that was put on the field. But all I’ve ever heard was how much everybody in that locker room loved and respected Hooker and it was his team and now this pops up out of the blue after a huge (win) over Missouri.

Incidents like this typically rear it’s head win you have a loosing team and players are looking to place blame, but we are not just winning but we’re giving out crazy but whippings to teams. ( Now this is just a thought). If this indeed did take place. The question now becomes did NIL have a play in it (Jealousy) number#1 and number #2. How does CJH handle this going forward because NIL ain’t going nowhere it’s here to stay.

But that’s just a question in my head because as I said this rumor makes no sense to me just out of nowhere with this team.

If that were true, it could definitely divide the team. I was thinking Hendon might be mourning the UVA players - he probably know hundreds of players. He never smiled from the first play. But, I guess that's a stretch.

Any news on the Jeremy Banks situation?

OOPS, posted this before I saw some of the above comments.
Where are the Banks supporters?

We're ahead of schedule record wise. This year was a fun ride. But as you said, we were always a year or two away in regards to defensive personnel. You can't have a secondary full of safeties and expect them to pay corner. The safeties that are starting aint that good either.

THIS IS UNVERIFIED INFO. BUT TESTS THE STRENGTH OF CURRENT COACHES-PLAYERS RELATIONSHIPS

JEREMY BANKS MISSING IN ACTION AT SC

A Vol Fan caller on the post-game Voluntary Reaction broadcast early this morning said he had numerous student sources with close relationships with football players who witnessed Jeremy Banks stepping on the Power T in the locker room last week which is absolutely forbidden. When Hooker saw what Banks had done, he asked Banks to do his push-ups as his discipline which every player had agreed to for team solidarity. When Banks refused to do the push-ups, Hooker got in Banks' face and demanded it. Banks then took an open swing at Hooker. When Joe Milton saw the confrontation, he stepped in and throat-pinned Banks against a wall. I don't know if any coaches witnessed the altercation. I would hope HH or another player would have reported the incident to the coaches which probably led to Banks' game suspension.

Again, this incident is unverified by one person and several communication levels and interpretations removed. We'll probably never know what actually happened.

But remember the campus confrontations and legal issues early in Banks' career. Wasn't Banks a Pruitt signee? This interpretation of the incident, or a more truthful version of it, is probably the reason why Banks didn't make the SC trip and the absolute confusion by the defense with no defensive signal-caller leader. Watching our linebackers and db's cover SC backs and receivers was like watching a pop-up fly ball in baseball between players...the "I've got it, you take it" approach. They were constantly looking for someone else to cover their assignment. No discipline...no eyes on target...no purpose...too much open space...too much chasing the ball. They looked absolutely lost all night.

One man can poison a team locker room. CJH said this one should hurt especially for those who didn't make the SC trip. Shade at Jeremy Banks...hmmm?

If any one knows the truth, I think all Vol Fans and all of college football would welcome any answers to the Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How? as any explanation of this loss.

We were the 5th ranked team in the country. What the hell happened?

Will he say... we just need a few more players and make some adjustments to D. Or will he say it's completely unacceptable to be where we were in the rankings and then have 63pts put on us by a bad qb and mediocre team. It seems clear this is not a championship level D-staff.
Less than 2 years in and we're talking about Heupel being at a crossroads? You can't be serious.

We were greatly overrated and played like we believed our press clippings. Maybe uga and bama can roll the ball out on the road and win with 75% effort, but this team can't. It has to be 100% and for a full 4 quarters. Now that the bubble has burst and after witnessing that debacle last night, it has to be clear to any sane, reasonable fan that this team has over achieved. This is a 7-8 win roster at best.

One defensive player being out should not have resulted In something like this. This falls on the coaches.

So obviously this means Heupel is a solid coach.

Seems the defense giving up 63 is at a crossroads. CJH doesn’t owe anyone a reason why a player wasn’t playing, handled by sitting out. That’s all we/press needs to know.

If it’s not true bring it out now and tell the most loyal fan base in America the truth. We are apart of this or be like Butch and lose what we have(had).

I don’t think crossroads is true but he’s definitely a key moment. I’m not talking about having to decide on coaches just yet being necessary. Maybe something should change there, but there is a bigger immediate concern. Fixing whatever the things that led what we saw yesterday and having the team prepared properly for Vanderbilt is hugely important. Last night was a big disappointment but we can recover and be just fine as long as that bad effort doesn’t result in more like it.
