agree something major is up
Nothing "major" about it. Season is nearing the end and Banks is a senior. No reason to give it a lot of attention. I don't know what the deal is with Banks, but if it's a discipline issue, Banks either makes amends or he doesn't. If he doesn't, you suspend him and move on with younger players. At this point, we no longer have an SEC championship or a playoff scenario to be concerned with. At 9 wins, we'll get a decent bowl game. I'm using the rest of this season to get a lot more reps for our younger players. Not saying bench the veterans, but I certainly get a good look at some guys who I'll need to count on next year in live action. Guys like Sampson, White, Herring, etc. would be rotated in much heavier than usual.

THIS IS UNVERIFIED INFO. BUT TESTS THE STRENGTH OF CURRENT COACHES-PLAYERS RELATIONSHIPS

JEREMY BANKS MISSING IN ACTION AT SC

A Vol Fan caller on the post-game Voluntary Reaction broadcast early this morning said he had numerous student sources with close relationships with football players who witnessed Jeremy Banks stepping on the Power T in the locker room last week which is absolutely forbidden. When Hooker saw what Banks had done, he asked Banks to do his push-ups as his discipline which every player had agreed to for team solidarity. When Banks refused to do the push-ups, Hooker got in Banks' face and demanded it. Banks then took an open swing at Hooker. When Joe Milton saw the confrontation, he stepped in and throat-pinned Banks against a wall. I don't know if any coaches witnessed the altercation. I would hope HH or another player would have reported the incident to the coaches which probably led to Banks' game suspension.

Again, this incident is unverified by one person and several communication levels and interpretations removed. We'll probably never know what actually happened.

But remember the campus confrontations and legal issues early in Banks' career. Wasn't Banks a Pruitt signee? This interpretation of the incident, or a more truthful version of it, is probably the reason why Banks didn't make the SC trip and the absolute confusion by the defense with no defensive signal-caller leader. Watching our linebackers and db's cover SC backs and receivers was like watching a pop-up fly ball in baseball between players...the "I've got it, you take it" approach. They were constantly looking for someone else to cover their assignment. No discipline...no eyes on target...no purpose...too much open space...too much chasing the ball. They looked absolutely lost all night.

One man can poison a team locker room. CJH said this one should hurt especially for those who didn't make the SC trip. Shade at Jeremy Banks...hmmm?

If any one knows the truth, I think all Vol Fans and all of college football would welcome any answers to the Who? What? Where? When? Why? and How? as any explanation of this loss.

We were the 5th ranked team in the country. What the hell happened?

All I got from this is you don’t mess with Joe Milton.

The only thing I will accept is Jeremy Banks absence played a huge role in defeat. I don't know how much.

When Clemson gave up 70 to West Virginia, Dabo fired Kevin Steele and possibly others. This was UNEXCEPTABLE!
You don't fire someone for a bad game. Every team has stinkers. We had one last night. You judge a coach by his entire body of work and if he has his players playing hard for him and improving. If something happened internally, I can't fault DC Banks for that. I also don't think it's fair to judge any coaching staff until they've filled the roster with their recruits. I know now that we have the portal, 4-5 years seems unreasonable to many, but when I look at the caliber of players we have in our secondary and at LB, I'm really shocked to see us at 9 wins much less to have had a chance at the playoffs. Thank goodness we didn't have to face one of those caliber QBs on a national stage. No, I think this staff certainly has a tough job ahead in the portal. We have a lot of holes to fill and I'm not sure we can rely solely on the HS recruiting. We need defensive help badly because I think we're gonna take a very, very big step back at QB next season and we all know what happens when you're weak at QB.

If above is true, Does J Banks play another down at UT?
I pray this is just rumor, back door talk but may stick.
If true what is the underlying issue.
CJH was on a 4 year cycle of a program destined for ruin if not turned around. He was able to do so quicker.
TBanks should have the same latitude. Not sure changing a staff or DC will fix the problem.
The issue, if true, was from an individual that has always been a controversial type individual who plays a important role in the defense, has great talent but seems to have flipped a switch on once again.

We can all speculate. Somebody will talk, as disappointing as it is, time will sort all this out. No need to fire anybody as these players and coaches know what was lost tonight.

We are back and the future is bright.

Just hold ground and learn from this experience. One game as disappointing as it was and what was lost will not define us in the future. If it does, then welcome back the 15 years of pain this program has just endured.

CJH is not at the Crossroads. He hasn't even gotten there yet.

Will he say... we just need a few more players and make some adjustments to D. Or will he say it's completely unacceptable to be where we were in the rankings and then have 63pts put on us by a bad qb and mediocre team. It seems clear this is not a championship level D-staff.
I don’t care what he says, I just care what he does. Let’s get some more talent in here to see what Banks can do before his heads rolls. Have faith.

IMO something wasn't right from kickoff to final whistle...We didn't look close to the same team I've seen all year. Even against UGA we fought and clawed to the end...Tonight we rolled over and got kicked in the nads. We will never know but something wasn't right. --------
Orange helmet. I told my wife at kickoff that we didn’t look like Tennesse.

If it’s not true bring it out now and tell the most loyal fan base in America the truth. We are apart of this or be like Butch and lose what we have(had).
Hyams said he was suspended. And now Doug Matthews said it was an off the field issue.

CJH only said Banks “wasn’t available,” and said this game needs to hurt “for the guys that didn’t make the trip.” So there is a problem between your offensive and defensive leaders, and BOTH sides of the ball looked unprepared and unmotivated. CJH needs to be forthcoming or you will get more rumors.

He ain't blamed lack of talent on s***.
He don't throw players or his Coaches under the bus like our fans do. That to me is his best quality.

Less than 2 years in and we're talking about Heupel being at a crossroads? You can't be serious.

No. Hell no. No one it at a crossroads. Tennessee played crazy long enough. If anyone misses it, go to Auburn.

Heupel was left with very little talent along with NCAA sanctions hanging over the program.

Anyone who thought this would be an easy rebuild is insane.

We were greatly overrated and played like we believed our press clippings. Maybe uga and bama can roll the ball out on the road and win with 75% effort, but this team can't. It has to be 100% and for a full 4 quarters. Now that the bubble has burst and after witnessing that debacle last night, it has to be clear to any sane, reasonable fan that this team has over achieved. This is a 7-8 win roster at best.
Doug Matthew's said the same this morning.. Team punched above its weight class most of the year... Still doesn't excuse that defensive effort last night or lack there of.

You call this defense improvement? When you can't even stop the team once, which play calling has something to do with that a coach is almost left with no choice. And excuse they stopped South Carolina once.

If things happened within the locker room it should stay in the locker room. The fact that there is even a rumor in the first place says we all got work to do. All the so called insiders need to learn to keep their mouth shut. Tells me their more interested in clicks than the Vols. A cancer can be treated and cured when's it's small but let it grow and it will kill you.

One defensive player being out should not have resulted In something like this. This falls on the coaches.

One bad apple absolutely affects attitude, disposition and game approach.
Maybe it's NIL deals ...don't know. Look at A&M.
Coaches don't play and players don't coach. It is a matter of mental and physical preparedness and execution plain and simple.
Attitudes good or bad are contagious.

Seems the defense giving up 63 is at a crossroads. CJH doesn’t owe anyone a reason why a player wasn’t playing, handled by sitting out. That’s all we/press needs to know.

Wrong Majors Boy! If White and Heupel want to keep the fan base engaged and butts in seats, he and the Athletic Dept owes VolNation an explanation why we should continue to support their program and not with superficial statements and meaningless platitudes.
One bad apple spoils the bunch.
Jeremy Banks (a Pruitt recruit I believe) is gone at year end.
I hope there are no others needing attitude adjustments.

Listen to the post-game Voluntary Reaction on SoundCloud, interpret what was said by the caller and discussions between players and students re: the incident and make your own judgement.

absolutely not, he owes us nothing in regards handling of his players. Only explanation is he violated team rules and it was handled, he’ll be back next week. Don’t disagree on one bad apple, we’ve had a lot of bad apples over the last few decades with stuff handled internally that fans never knew about and fans showed up. Silver lining is hopefully a message to the rest of the team to get onboard or get left in Knoxville.

No one in the media, although Hyams did say he was suspended.

This was not a leak but a caller on the Voluntary Reaction post-game show with solid sources (students) who have friendships with players.
Well probably never know if this is true or not.
