That would be a big wrongo on that one.

Peyton always was well versed in Gen. Neyland and the Vols history and even tough Archie went to Ole Miss Peyton never trolled them or gave the Ole Miiss fans false hope and did his announcement to UT on national TV.

Eli's heart was more into following their parents footsteps to Ole Miss.

To myself Peyton was always leaning towards the Vols and Archie told Peyton to follow his heart.

If people want to cry over Mays, can't ya'll do it on his thread. He was gone from UT long ago and if anybody thought that he was going to sign with the Vols, then you've been in fantasy land.

Between him and his parents it reminds me too much like Eric Locke and maybe a blessing in disguise that he signed with GA.

EXACTLY!!! Mays was nothing like Peyton Manning and Ole Miss! When Billy Brewer went to recruit Peyton at his home in NO he said "I don't know where he's going, but it ain't here". Stop the ignorant comparisons because it's not even CLOSE.

Really? I truly admire your loyalty, but did you sleep through 2017? 0-8 was only part of the story. Too many embarrassments to list here. Given our performance the last 4 months, on and off the field, it’s hard to question any 2018 recruit for going elsewhere, even if he grew up just down the street from the stadium.

Staying positive, Pruitt is in all-out salvage mode for this class and doing an excellent job. We’ll lose a ton of ground in this recruiting cycle, particularly to Georgia, but Pruitt is the guy to get us back on track. Watch what he does with the 2019 class.

uh yeah....agreed.

Manning grew up in New Orleans, not oxford. Manning didn't commit anywhere before he announced where he was signing.

Ole Miss fans were still pissed, but moreso at Archie for not directing him to Ole Miss.

Manning went to UT because of Fulmer and Cut. felt they had the best way of getting him where he wanted to be.

Ole Miss was also on probation then (too) and they just weren't very good. Peyton did grow up an Ole Miss fan.

situation was different when Eli went, and his personality is totally different than Peyton's. i've never gotten the impression Eli ever liked, or wanted, anything to do with any kind of spotlight. and Cut was at Ole Miss when Eli comitted there.

i'm not sure why mays ever comitted here to be honest. by all accounts the staff we have now is probably going to wind up better than the old one. not sure what he saw in Mahoney/Wells/Deboard/Scott.

if mays wants be part of winning championships, then it will take talents like his actually coming to TN, to get TN there. he didn't want to be part of that evidently, and is more willing to go with the path of least resistance. to each his own.

From what I remember watching on the 30 for 30, Manning picked UT because Old Miss was in trouble at the time. Like most players he wanted to go somewhere to win and luckily for UT, Old Miss was not that place at the time.
