Govt cant even sync the damn traffic lights. What makes one so sure that it could solve a 1.6 c global temperature increase? Also central planning killed 200+ million people last century, so it's got that going for it.


Why is importing such a boogeyman with planners? We would be poorer because we have to build, maintain, forecast the correct square footage of greenhouses to demand, insure them, acquire land and lease/ purchase land, etc. Or we could just order a container ship of bananas and put the savings towards better uses. Are you saying that comparative advantage is bunk? We also bulldozed the Mississippi delta because we needed the timber, food and cotton just like south America is doing now.


So double down on central planning over here since there are regulations over there? I shouldn't be surprised after Obama but it always amazes me of the cult-like, religious reverence these scumbag politicians receive.

What’s wrong with importing? It’s not even a good green argument because we purchase goods that are made more efficiently than we make ourselves which decreases pollution, resources used, and increases wealth. If we don’t import, we have to build more factories, use more land and resources to manufacture something we could purchase elsewhere cheaper.

I don’t know whether you’re a Trump supporter or not but it amazes that “ conservatives” who are supposedly free- market now support tariffs and other barriers to free enterprise because Trump is for them. Same as the supposed anti- war left that disappeared when Obama became president. It means that the political parties have one principle and that principle is “if my guy does it, it’s ok”.

Nobody totally denies it just the fact that it’s supposed to be solely a man made issue that throwing money at money will fix. I remember all the “scientific evidence” about acid rain 30+ years ago.

I say world leaders should try to institute some meaningful change. Republicans seem to love to toss out this, "what would you do specifically?" bullsh!t. The first step is to get with scientists and figure out what goals need to be met, globally. Then figure out how we can meet those goals.

I am somewhere in the middle. not a conservative, not a liberal, not a libertarian, or whatever anarcho-cap 88 claims to be. they all suck, and they all have some good ideas. its part of why I don't vote, no one represents me.

I can only speak to the building world, but in that I can promise you that most other manufacturers are not anywhere close to being as efficient or green as our plants are. some pricey European, and the occasional Japanese/Korean are just fine. but for the most part, if you want to build with a quality green-ish sourced item you buy American. Its a basic principle in LEED, and most other green reviewers. if you buy from outside this continent you are hurting the environment more than getting from an American company. sure costs are higher, thats not the argument, but you are getting a better product, and one that you can actually confirm.

It used to be global warming, global warming, global warming. Then it started getting colder, and now it's climate change. That ought to tell you all you need to know. There is a bad hurricane or two, like we have had since the beginning of recorded history, and it's climate change. There is a wildfire in what is now a populated area which spreads due to forest mismanagement, and it's climate change. I would guess that there has always been climate change, and always will be. I would think that solar activity is the reason.

I'm certainly not suggesting that all Americans have to start riding their bikes to work tomorrow to minimize the impact of climate change. But rolling back regulations - Clean Power Plan, Fuel Efficiency Standards, etc. - exacerbates the problem. Ignoring the science and refusing to do anything is never the right answer.

I have not dedicated a career to studying the problem. I'd say we should start paying a little more attention to the scientists who have studied the problem extensively instead of pretending that we know better.

Most of the dozens that I know personally who have died from cancer followed it to their grave. And one more that I went to high school with is now doing the same. He won't make it either.
