The great player was hot for about 15 minutes, beating Tiny twice and the TE twice.

Then, after Tiny wore him down, Spurrier moved him to the other side for most of the game and was never heard from again. No sacks, no more solo tackles, no fumbles, no QB hurries. Our DLine sacked Shaw 4 times (including nearly breaking his legs), and he can run circles around JWorley (we love you Justin!).

The MSM will keep showing Clowney's hit on Raijon all year, right through to the NFL Draft. Here's one pic the MSM won't show -- do you guys/gals have more like this? Tiny serving up 330 lbs of pancakes.

Dude Clowney went off that game it went from him owning Tiny to Clowney getting get doubled on run plays and chipped by backs and Tight ends on passes.

IMO Clowney won the battle, but Tennessee won the war.

I don't care how you spin it Clowney had a great game. He's a DE not a MLB. In other words his stat line was awesome for that position. Did he lose a TFL for the face mask pen.?

last year his play changed the outcome of the game. This year he got his plays (like any great player will do) but when the game was on the line UT got it done. Much rather see him in the backfield in the 1st quarter than on the final drive

Correct me if I am wrong, he had 2 TFL's and he had 2 personal foul penalties (horsecollar and face mask) those 2 basically cancel each other out?
CBJ ran at him several times and threw to his side on a few RO passes. In the end he didnt do too much to help his team win.
Hood, Walls, and McCullers all had better games defensively than he did.

Clowney didn't own Tiny Saturday. He did get the best of him a few times but a player like Clowney will get his plays. Our expectations on that match up were set too high from Tiny's performance last year.

I went to a party after the game. A bunch of us were watching the Ohio State/Iowa game, and during half-time, they were showing highlights from all the other SEC games. Some guy walks into the room and says "Daaang, Vanderbilt beat Georgia. Did y'all see that South Carolina game? The touchdown by that running back? He just bounced off like 4 guys and ran like 30 yards!"

I just turned around slowly, wearing all my orange gear still, and said "Huh. Too bad they lost..."

Soon people will reckonize. Soon.

I'm not saying Clowney isn't great or that he didn't have a good game. But vs. Michigan, he changes the game very late. Against us, all his action was early, then we schemed around him, and he was tired.

I just don't want to see Tiny get trashed all year, and perhaps in the NFL Draft, because the only action shown from the game will be Clowney's early hits.

Show me a pic of Taylor Lewan flattening Clowney after a pancake. You can't. There isn't one.

Important difference...last year he caused the fumble that ended the game.

This year he whiffed on the sack on the pass that Worley made to North...you know..."The Catch".

All the difference in the world!

I think this years game was almost the exact opposite of last years.

Clowney (like Tiny last year) had a great game but his team lost on the scoreboard.

Tiny was great last year, but we couldn't pull out the W

Clowney had a great first half but his play went downhill throughout the second to the point where he was not a factor at all on the final couple drives. One play that stands out to me in the 4th quarter was when he lined up on the left side against James and James promptly drove him several yards down the field on his block.

Clowney is either playing through several nagging injuries or his conditioning is not that great.

Clowney was in Tiny's head bad this game. Tiny had what 2 or 3 false starts. I quit counting all the whiffs he had on him. Clowney played up to his hype .

Clowney's one of those players that if you can weather his storm early on, he tends to fade down the stretch. I don't know if he gets frustrated and just sort of checks out when things start going down, or maybe it really is his conditioning...

Honestly, and this may sound weird...but Clowney could benefit a little bit from NOT being such a genetic freak and always the most explosive player on the field. Wouldn't hurt that dude to have to nut up and work for it a little bit every now and then. Maybe then he'd gain some mental toughness...couple that with his physical attributes and wow...

The best part is that we won and never have to face Clowney (or Shaw) again.

Don't worry about the draft. I don't think NFL scouts evaluate from ESPN reels.

Someone on twitter had the best response to the whole Clowney deal.

"Somebody pass the ESPN crew some chapstick, their lips have to be raw after kissing Clowney's ass so hard"

or something close.

Clowney made his couple of impact plays and was smiling even as his team was losing because (imo) all he really cares about now is solidifying his draft position. UT won the war by playing as a team. Big Dan and Walls had better days than Clowney and didn't need the limelight.

If you watched ESPN, you'd have thought he won the game for USC and it was a blowout.
As I watched ESPN the next morning and the love fest they poured out for him I thought they had won and I had only dreamed the Vols won. Then at the end of the love fest for Clowney, they half heartily said the Vols won BTW.

Clowney started off the game very well, at least somewhat due to Tiny attacking Clowney rather than him waiting for Clowney to make a move first. Not to take anything away from Clowney, but Tiny's tactics early on should be noted. Clowney wasn't able to sack our QB, and he even committed some penalties.

It is strange that ESPN is so hesitant to give the Vols any sort of credit, considering that Knoxville and Nashville are two of the biggest sports viewing markets in the country.
