Bruin it was the coolest experience of my life attending the meet and greet and presser. Just amazing to be a part of it, my kids like seeing me on TV too. They didn't know I went and watched the presser with them and they were like Hey that's you!

Have a video of his speech to boosters and all us in the meet and greet that was great too!

Like some Coach Jones!

I have enjoyed your post so much. Good times!!

I will applaud also when he leaves here in 3-4 years

Hell man, I was butthurt as much as anyone this morning but I let it go. After watching the press conference, I must admit that I am impressed. Now does that mean that I'm suddenly a blind following Butcher? No, but I already have more confidence in our new coach than I ever did in Dooley. I am in wait and see mode starting with his staff hirings. If he retains Jay Graham and brings Tee home, then that's a win in my book. If he can put together a decent recruiting class this year considering the mess Dooley left, well, that's another win. We just need to sit back and see how he handles himself before we blindly follow or start screaming for his head imo.

Lol Vandy who? Meaning with this guys personality Franklin needs to head out if state or take what's left when we are done setting the balance back the way it should be.

I am really curious how the SEC handles a no huddle Oregon style offense. Could take a bit to get the right guys but it could revolutionalize the sec game. Boys better get in real damn good shape.

The way the Cincinnati players respected the coach makes me have a lot of respect for the program that they have there.

Go Cinci!!!! I hope you beat Louisville every year from now on!! (LOL)

I definitely was on the gruden kool aide. Too a fault. I was wrong and was mad. I am a grown up and admit to being pissed. Again, I was wrong and should have listened more clearly.

What I saw was a man that wanted to be here. I may be wrong (carter chime in here) but it sounded like CBJcalled our AD several times wanting the job. I respect that. I respect the man because he wanted to be here. In short this will parlay well with recruits. CBJ wants to be a VOL. I will be there to support the man.

No doubt, but Louisville is moving to the ACC so not sure how often they will meet. Louisville is another team in the list of those I will enjoy getting their ass handed to them. Gators are going to massacre them in embarrassing fashion.

I wonder if Charlie Strong will have any regrets this time next year :whistling:

I think the applause was from the $18,000,000 he screwed Hart out of.....hey I have to give the man credit, he went for the money just like Dooley....no difference.....lets see how many SEC games he wins next year....what maybe 2 if he's lucky

This guy knows football and wants to win you can see it in his eyes. If the administration gets the internal issues resolved we could win a lot of games with Butch.

He's wanted this job for a while.
He's been saying "pick me!!" Since the day CDD was fired.
He wants to be here. The other guy didn't.

4 conference championships in 6 years is a history of winning. Can he do it in the big boy league.

Can't wait to find out.

Glad to see the pragmatic approach Slice!

Well, if his offense is no-huddle like Oregon, it will be something the SEC has never seen before. I don't remember much about Auburn's offense in 2010 when they won the championship, but I do know that Gene Chizik's offense was more similar to Oregon's than it was to Florida.

My best friend and I talk football constantly all day, whether we're at home with our families and we're talking over cell phones either verbally or via texts, or doing text messages while we're working, and he noted something interesting about Cincinnati's defense, in that his defenses are noted for giving up a lot of points. Now, if he can hire a good defensive coordinator to run the 4-3 or the 3-4 and limit opposing offenses to scoring 12-19 points per game (No 3-3-5 or 3-5-3 please!), I think he can win big in this league. His offenses, according to my friend, are a little more pass happy than most spread attacks, so there is a better than good chance that we could see Butch Jones installing an offense here at Tennessee that is similar to what you see at Oklahoma State, only eventually doing so with better talent. He has a history of winning his most important games on the schedule, though he never beat a school from the SEC or someone like Ohio State at all. (There is a law in the state of Ohio preventing antitrust situations amongst the state's college sports teams, so in other words, Ohio State is required to play teams like Cincinnati, Miami [OH], Kent State, Toledo, Ohio, etc., since they are all Division 1 college football bowl teams.)

I personally feel like this was a great hire in hindsight. When I first heard, I was sorely disappointed because I really wanted Charlie Strong. However, when I saw that he has had success at every single school at which he's ever been head coach, coupled with the fact that he's built his teams into dominating forces within the conference it was located in within two years, it makes me think, "Gee, Charlie Strong won the Big East title this year for the first time as well as earning the conference's automatic BCS bowl bid, but look at Butch Jones, who has taken teams at two schools and made them into conference championship caliber teams as well AND has done it two times at both schools AND finished in the top 25 at both schools despite they're not being noted for being big time football schools...," it just amazes me what the man has been able to do.

Jones' mindset is as close to that of Phil Fulmer as fans of Tennessee football have seen. He is a winner, and he may have more of that championship swagger than any of the previous UT coaches have had in recent memory. The knock on our two most successful coaches in modern times -- Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer -- was that they rarely won big games. For Johnny Majors, he always lost to Auburn and Alabama. For Fulmer, he always lost to Florida, and then later on, struggled to beat Georgia as well when the ship started to sink. This guy has a history of winning most of the big games in his conference if he's got the talent to pull the trick off. Did he win enough games the past two years in the Big East to get him to Orange and Sugar Bowls despite coaching Cincinnati to conference championships? No, he didn't. But he does win enough games to crown his teams conference champions and to get them nationally ranked. We're in for a treat with him as head coach. Just you wait and see.

It is good to see some of the fellow Grudenites hopping on the J Train. Bruin, carter and slice: I saw all of you guys over there.

I'm glad that at least a few of us have moved on and aren't over wallowing in the angst. If they did the research, they will see that this guy has been a winner. And, if they watch the press conference, they can't help but see that this guy is a nice guy but a real football coach (and I bet a tough SOB). He reminds me very much of Gary Patterson.

I bought into the rock star hysteria surrounding the Gruden possibility, but came to see like carter that that was never really going to happen. And, I am not sure, but we may have just hired a better coach for the long run.
