“They’ve never run the way they’ve run,” Jones said. “We can’t have any interaction with them. They’re in the hands of (strength coach) Dave Lawson (and his staff). But when they come up, to see the transformations in their bodies is unbelievable.”

Jones singled out defensive tackle Daniel McCullers as showing the most dramatic transformation.

...Jones also said he was pleased with the progress of UT’s two freshmen quarterbacks, Riley Ferguson and Joshua Dobbs.

“We’re very fortunate to have two of the finest quarterbacks in the country come here,” he said. “I’m ecstatic about those individuals. Word has it they’re pushing (veteran quarterbacks) Justin Worley and Nathan Peterman.

Not sure how to take that - do our "veterans" suck that bad or are these guys just that good.

This worries me.

Good news.

Definitely want to see a team that can play all 4 quarters. We will be in some Tight games this year, and will need the mental edge of being in better shape than the other team.

Also glad to hear that he is excited about Dobbs and Ferg. If they are the best chance for us to win, they will play. Excited for fall camp!

If that worries you, you may need medication.

Jones says he is ecstatic about them. Which means they are very good. I don't take that to mean our veterans are bad. Our veterans are inexperienced. That's all.

Don't freak yet. It will be fine. Someone will be on the field playing QB, and it will be the best one we have. Worrying wont change that.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but competition is good. I think it worries us all that the Freshmen are pushing the upperclassmen but I believe we can take this as a huge positive too. New coach + new system = no position on the depth chart is safe. The best will play fellas...baleedat!

Be nice to see a team play a complete quarter more less a game.

I'm simply making a statement that if 2 true freshmen are pushing 2 upper classman after 3 weeks on campus we should have a reason to be worried. Not freaking out as I understand how coach speak works.

Thanks for the advice on the meds - I will be ok without them.

We will be a very young team and you know what that means in the sec.:eek:hmy:

Yeah, I know. I don't understand, though, how Georgia, Florida, Alabama and others can have young teams and still maintain a high level and win several games. I mean, c'mon, other teams start Freshman and do just fine.

I would not be disappointed if Ferg or Dobbs won the job.

Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure.--Confucius

By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.--Benjamin Franklin

If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six sharpening my axe.--Abraham Lincoln

1st lesson: being unprepared the way we were last year and fading in games is inexcusable.

2nd lesson: don't get into an aphorism contest with Abe Lincoln.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that has been following UT football. He is running a no huddle hurry up offense, which requires leaner, lighter, quicker lineman that can get down field and keep up the pace for 4 quarters. Look at Jone's last year’s Bearcat OL. Not one of them was over 300 lbs. This is going to be the silver lining in this year's team folks. We have a VERY talented offensive line that was put together to run your standard pro-style offense. Either they lose a lot of weight and get in shape to run this new offense or our OL is going to appear like they are underperforming next season. I personally love what Butch Jones is doing. His offense is going to be fun to watch. However, as I have posted ina few other threads, UT fans might not like the product this year, but give Jones time. He is doing a tremendous job of recruiting the kids he needs and will have his offense clicking on all cylinders year 2.

With all this being said, if these lineman perform well next season (and I think they can), then it will truly be a testament to Jones and our new strength and conditioning coach.

Alright, Nancy, let's just take this to be all negative.

What if the freshman are just better than advertised? What if they merely fit better in the system Butch is putting in? No need to get all whiny and pessimistic well before damn fall camp starts.

Yeh since we can tell that they are better than the other QBs by working out with Lawson. C'mon you guys over analyze everything. He said their pushing them. That all. Creating competition. I know everyone is in love with Dobbs but he's not going to start.

While it's always great to hear good things happening in the program, I can't remember the last off-season where we weren't told about how hard the players were working with the strength coach and how much more physically fit we'd be in the upcoming season.
