Coach Jones to speak before Saban

I drive through Athens every week on the way to my office in Atlanta. I will never spend one cent in your town again. Cleveland will be getting my gas, breakfast/lunch purchases from now on. What idiot put up that billboard? If you don’t think Tennesseans are ultra passionate about their football.....I think you’ll find out differently. You are a disgrace to the state of Tennessee and it’s a shame my wife and son will never visit the Lost Sea....it’s a jewel. We will NEVER purchase another Mayfield product and they will be getting an e-mail as well. I wasn’t aware they were located in Athens until someone started a boycott online.

I really don’t know if you’re aware of the enormous backlash Athens has on the web right now......but you are most certainly now the enemy. If I run out of gas in Athens I swear I will walk to the next town, buy gas, and walk back.

Sure, it’s a speaking engagement about leadership....Hitler was a leader too. Guess he couldn’t make it.

I work with Chambers all across the South....and never, never, never have I seen such a dumb decision.

Good day,

i doubt they care either....but if they get enough e-mails.....maybe they'll get the point.

So you choose to "punish" those who have no horse in this race. Many of businesses that you will no longer visit are probably not even Chamber members. Mayfields is owned by the conglomerate Dean Foods, which is based in Texas. Heck, you even throw in the Monroe County attraction, The Lost Sea. It does not appear that you stop often anyway. Bye bye.

I live close to Athens and I have officially boycotted that city. I will no longer go there and give Athens businesses' any money. Probably start going to Cleveland instead.

The area is looking better already. The stench is gone. Those possessive businesses don't want your money anyways. I'm glad it's "official."

Your point will be lost on him.

And what if the a business was owned by a hardcore Tide fan? One who was instrumental in bringing Saban to town? Is a game played by kids worth boycotting a business you would otherwise patronize?

I hope you don't care what rational people think. They all think your little email makes you look stupid.

One of the perks to being a Bama fan on this site is watching people like hman associate themselves with the stupidest statements simply because they were made by other Vols.

Inviting Saban to speak is just like inviting Hitler, right hman?

These diehard, hardcore, bygodalmighty Vol fans were nowhere around last year when this same Chamber hosted Fulmer, Wilson & Price from our last Championship team. Less than 300 showed up.

We as a fan base are often pathetic in how we choose to display our passion. It's a game, yes a game we love, but still only a game. There are many more things and certainly all people are more important in life. Threats made against the Chamber president are absurd. I'm sure even our almighty CBJ would not tolerate this same behavior from his team and staff.

It does not appear from Saban's most recent recruiting classes that he needs the perceived help that he will get from this trip. There are no players in the surrounding area on his radar. If there were, they would probably think twice about playing for a team whose fans are represented by so many closed minded brethren.

I am a Vol fan since birth and will be one to the day I die. I detest Alabama and will not be attending this event, but because others choose to do so, does not mean they are wrong or evil. How often can a small local Chamber bring the top person in their field to speak? Hopefully one day very soon that person will be wearing Big Orange in the form of CBJ, but we are not there yet.

*I am acquaintance of the Chamber president. He has absolutely no bad intentions in this move. He is simply trying to promote and grow his membership. Those of you who adamantly oppose this, look in the mirror and ask yourselves, How would I like for my friend to be berated for something so trivial in life?

Oh I won't actually pay any attention to where I get gas or eat. It was just a negative letter because I completely abhore Nick Saban and Alabama. I do hope your little friend recieves enough negative feedback he regrets his decision. Heck, I just had a couple of scoops of Mayfield Butter Pecan after dinner.....good stuff.

If you want me to apologize for being a DIE HARD Vol fan...you're out of luck. You see, it's more than just a game to many of us...

It's riding in your grandad's truck, going to the store, listening to Jon Ward give the play by play. Sitting in the truck while Tennessee drives.....drives....and scores.

I remember working on cars with my dad and Tennessee being on the workbench tv. Everyone in the garage stopped and scurried to the tv when a big play happened.

It's the first time he ever drove me to Knoxville, just me and him.....and it taking an eternity to drive from Nashville. It's being shocked at all the other people dressed in orange at Cracker Barrel in Cookeville where we ate. Everyone was so nice and excited to see us whip Vanderbilt that day. I remember the shakers on the cars...& everyone waving to us on the way up.

It's going up as a teenager and getting shown the atheletic facilities....I remember being amazed at free pinball lol. How nice Coach Majors was to my dad and I.

It's getting dropped off at N. Carrick by your parents....heading off into the unknown....to make lifelong friends who will all love the Big Orange until the day they die.

It's your first home game as a student.....your first Big Orange mixer in the stands.....the first shower of plastic cups from the upper deck. The first time your tickets are in the upper deck at a big game and it actually sways....& you can't hear what the person next to you is saying.

It's getting a degree from the BEST university in the world and going out in the world, finding kindred Vol fans and alumni all over the country....talking about how we're doing or how we think we're going to do.

It's going to the Georgia Dome for SEC Championship games and knowing you need Club Level tickets to get beer. It's outnumbering the SEC West opponent by thousands and thousands and being proud to be cheering for UT.

It's flying out to Arizona to see your team FINALLY bring home something you've dreamed of since a little boy....the National Championship....and crying as the trophy is hoisted....by YOUR team.

It's getting on Volnation almost every day and checking on stories and news....it's being able to do 3 loads of clothes that are all orange. It's having a man cave that's got so much stuff you can't possibly fit it all.....

It's taking your son to his first Vols game......and smiling as you watch his eyes when he comes out of the tunnel and sees 100k plus of his new family.

What it is F******** not is having Alabama's coach come into East TN and speak on whatever it is he is going to speak on.....and pay him to do it. It's sure not paying for a billboard with his picture on it on our hollowed ground.

NO SIR. I don't have a closed mind. I have an orange mind. I also have an orange a**.....& you and your president buddy can kiss it.

I don't get why you're so worked up about what's going on with Vol fans on a Vol fan site. We don't all agree with what somebody else says but we reserve the right to take exception to fans of rivals reprimanding one of our own. Not hard to figure out, right bama?

So he's an idiot, but he's your idiot? I understand.

I don't share that mindset, but I understand.

Express your thoughts on your idiot, Harvey Updike. I don't think anybody around here would support a moron like that but we don't have an idiot like that.

Didn't Hitler go to bama after all?

Bama had the largest Jewish student body of any public Southern university for pretty much the entire 20th century (and still might, but I haven't looked it up). I doubt Hitler would have felt too comfortable.

Maybe that's how he got so pissed off, bammer Jews. It's a joke y'all (admittedly bad taste but that's what bammer fans do to ya) so don't get all freaked out.

I condemn what Updyke did.

He killed a couple of trees. He didn't make a concerted, organized effort to hurt the livelihoods of an entire community. If given the choice, I'd rather have my trees killed.

If the president of the chamber of commerce thought there would be no backlash from hiring Alabama's football coach, then he is dumber than every toothless inbred hillbilly in this state. He should probably resign immediately.

Backlash and violent personal threats are two very different things. I guess he expected better from our fans. It's a hard lesson learned.

Saban spoke at a huge event for the Jason Foundation in Nashville last year, and I don't recall any kind of backlash. Maybe the Chamber prez made the erroneous assumption that the idiots wouldn't notice his event like they didn't notice the one in Nashville.

That or the Vols in Nashville aren't irrational douches.

Again, if he thought hiring Alabama's coach would help commerce in Athens more than hurt it then he should resign effective immediately.

Concerted organized effort?...we have some posters venting about a chamber of commerce bringing THE rival coach into the heart of our state to stage a BAMA infomercial. They're getting called on it for the first time in a long while is all...Repair to your bunker and empty the powder charge in your musket...dinosaurs ain't coming to eatcha!....self inflicted twss
